    Thinking of starting Eve-Online

Been thinking about starting Eve-Online for a while now. The initial software is cheap to buy and the subscriptions sound cheap (Around a tenner a month from what I hear). Thing is, I probably wouldn't play it solid. I'd be more of a casual player. Is the game forgiving enough for the more independant casual gamer?? Not really looking to join any corps or alliances. Looking more in a freelance trader direction. Can anyone give me tips, information, etc? I'd be grateful....

Eve Online has been picking up for a while now and there's been plenty of times when there's 12000+ players online at once. I have mixed feelings about this one now, I started playing several months back and I still feel waaaay behind everyone else.

There are literally so many good players now that it's almost impossible to venture into systems with a security rating lower than 0.5 (once you reach 0.4 and below Concorde won't come to protect you if you're attacked) without getting ganked, therefore making a decent profit is only achievable by joining a large corp.

I still find it quite enjoyable to play, but WoW is taking up so much of my time I haven't even been on for a while to change my skills! I am definately getting rid of two of my three accounts this month, I'm not paying for 3 anymore as I simply don't use them enough. Thing is, I don't really wanna get rid of any of my decent chars and I have 4 of them... I have 2 chars with over 2m SP (by all means not a lot, but a couple of months worth of learning) and 2 chars with nearly all learning skills at full and most of the advanced learning skills. Some pretty good base characters.

I love it, been hooked since i started. its not like WoW or SWG where you have to play loads to get better, it just takes times to train the skills so playing loads doesnt really make a huge differance other than earning ingame cash.

There are literally so many good players now that it's almost impossible to venture into systems with a security rating lower than 0.5
not true, you just have to know what you're doing and where you're going.

Joining a corp does help alot, you dont have to do stuff with them, but its nice to get to know some guys well and chat to them and stuff. its all fun

Hmmm, think I'm going to take the plunge and run with it for 30 days. See if I like it. The path of the research/construction merchant is appealing to me at the moment.

Also, just been browsing through this thread: http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=26241

Is the hexus corp still up?

Umm, and how many new(ish) players know where to go and what to do in 0.4 space? Fair enough after a few months you should have enough SP and a decent enough ship to protect yourself, but normally the people who gank you in 0.4 or below are hard enough to tank sentry guns, let alone easily stop you from escaping.

Remember this, to survive in 0.4 or below space you need a reasonable setup for PvP, nothing less. With that setup, there's very little you can actually do there except npc rat hunt, which can be dangerous with highly skilled player pirates about picking you off when you're already low on shields/armor etc. Try going to 0.4 or below to mine alone and you're a dead man, skills and knowledge or no skills and knowledge.

I've been playing for about a year, it is very diverse, more so than other MMORPG's.

You can take the route of non-stop PvP if you wish, or you can do the complete opposite and go into Research & Development, Manufacturing or good old Mining & Refining.

ATM, the R&D market is saturated and has very little profit unless you can afford a Battleship, or one of the many Elite class ships Blue Print originals, which all cost around a billionISK+ each.

The manufacturing however is currently very profitable, especially as the R&D market is so saturated, it means Blue Print Copies are currently VERY cheap. A Battleship BPC for example will cost a mere 1million. Mine the common ores yourself and refione them, buy the rare minerals for about 25mill, make the BS, sell it for 100mill = 74mill profit \o/

Even someone with little or no factory skills can make a mint from manufacturing at the moment, but those with better manufacturing skills do better obviously.
