For the mage its all about controlling the combat, a high enough mage should have enough crowd control to be able to stop a rogue (providing he doesn't die in the first hits)

Poly morph, frost nova, a % chance of stun with any fireballs (most likely too). 42 Yards range for fireballs too! (with talents)

High lvl mage that knows what they are doing are AWESOME!.

Also blink breaks rogue stuns, so you can blink out of most attacks even when jumped. Combine with some of the high level talents such as a POM pyroblast (instant 2k damage in some cases) or the ice barrier/block and you get some nasty results.
I'm an ice/arcane mage so everytime you hit me there's a 15% chance you get rooted.

Doesn't Pyroblast take 6 seconds to cast though? 2k damage, bloody hell!

The biggest problem with a mage is who gets the first hit. If the mage gets going quicker, then polymorph is the best opener (unless the oponent can resist) this give you time to think about the next step. I've concentrated all my talent points in fire, having maxed out, i'm now able to use Combustion, this allows me a one hit 100% guarrenteed crit hit with any fireball. As Pyroblast is the most powerful fireball i have, then i will use this as my opening attack. Its cast time is 6sec so its only viable for the opening salvo. After that its fireballs all the way.

If i'm attacked first i try and Polymorph, failing that then Blink away and try and attack from the new position. A mage can be over power when the oponent gets in close, we only have cloth armour, so our only course of action is not to get close.

Blink first if it's a rogue, then polymorph and wait for your blink to refresh before attacking (may need to re-poly). Pyroblast from poly if you don't have pom.

Yes a pyroblast is 6s, but if you use pom, it's instant:
    Presence of Mind
    Instant cast
    3 min cooldown

Your next Mage spell with a casting time less then 10 sec becomes an instant cast spell.
You can also combine that with combustion for a guaranteed crit or arcane power for +35% damage.

A good pyroblast is maybe 900 damage, add 35% and it's 1215, crit that for 1822 inital hit, followed by a dot of 360 and ignite for 730. That's 2912 damage, instant cast. Ok you blew half your talents doing it, but ouch.

If a rogue gets to a mage the mage can usually just kite them, if you hit a mage you get snared to 70% speed and 80% attack speed which makes running off easier, and the mage can spam arcane explosion as they run (which hits from well outside melee range) for extra damage.

OK, didn't realise what PoM was. Also, what is kite? You use too much jargon in one post! I'm only a lvl 23 mage, don't know half of this stuff. And what is you talent tree used to get that damage?

A shadow specced priest is widely regarded as the best possible 1v1 PvP class, with the rogue and shaman just behind and the paladin just behind that. From my personal experience, I've found shadow priests by far the toughest I've ever duelled, and rogues definitely cause me trouble, although I'm yet to lose to a same-level one.

For chamans you just need to keep them stunned and use kick as soon as you see a healing spell, but they are hard from what I hear.
I agree about Hunters. I've killed level ?? ones by ignoring the pet, keeping the hunter in melee range and just pounding on them.

As far as Shaman go ... you may find it more difficult than you imagine. We have damage output approaching yours, and - depending on level and spec - we also have instant heals and near-uninterruptable heals. This isn't even talking about the fact that a lot of Shamans like to kite Rogues and use frost shock to keep them too far away to hit them and use flame shock to make their stealth useless.

Not saying by any means that a well played rogue wouldn't beat a merely averagely played shaman, but if you find a good shaman you'll almost certainly be surprised

Kiting is a term you'll probably hear fairly often in MMOGs - it means running away from a target to get range for your next attack. You usally combine it with a snare or root, but sometimes just the element of surprise works too. As a mage snare kiting is trivial, as your frost/ice armour buff will snare any attackers plus you can blink to range.

Pyroblast is in the fire tree, as are combustion and ignite. Arcane power is the top arcane talent. I you can't have both combustion and arcane power, however you can get fire power (10% damage boost) with combustion which also gives nice results.

    Personally I'm ice/arcane so I can't even cast pyroblast.

Well i can tell ya, being a hunter in pvp is not easy(at least duel wise)!!did several duels...lost most of them...Even today a lost a duel to a warlock that was like 6 lvl below me.I jumped right at him ignoring is pet...he saved himself from trouble 3 times using fear...and wen i was feard he just zaped me.I should point out that i wasn't using my pet...other day i won a duel with a warrior that was 4 lvl below me.... its not only the class that matters, but also how do ya play it!!
But i have to say that we hunters are not balanced...we have some good skills(top hunters have been seen doing 2000dmg with aimed shot), but we usually need to use our bow/gun, and even then, they dont last long, and the cooldown is big!!we dont have a good dps,and our pet kind off loses its usabillity in pvp!we need a fix!!Blizzard i heard is working on it and the upcomming pet costumization looks promissing!!Still its just awesome being a hunter
