    Re: Rome, Total war Remastered

I'll have to check a review or two before taking the plunge. But I also saw this in my emails yesterday... initially slightly intrigued.
For me it depends on what type of Remaster it is, for me to get it or not...if it's just a 4K upgrade, I'll likely pass.

I've got pretty much most of the TW series, but only played a few of them. Tried some of the older games a while back, but some of the controls etc were too old and unwieldly compared to like TW: Warhammer II. So I'll be checking out what this includes.

Also 50% off is valid till a month after release. Good.

Thanks for this, didn't realise I could get half off it. Still not sure I'll get it though either, haven't even got round to playing Rome 2 and those games are always a big time investment unfortunately.

I've checked the pictures and it looks awful, the quality of textures is really low, especially the terrain

Being a remaster, and not a remake. They are using the same engine which is now 17 years old.
The graphics are a significant upgrade on the game delivered in 2004. And, as with all games, visuals arn't everything.

The question is how good this version will be. It often happened that updating the classic version of the game killed all the interest. The best is often the enemy of the good.

The problem being that the game underneath is broken and always has been. The shiny (for the time,) graphics hid major issues on the campaign map as the AI just couldn't use it properly.

Any of the gameplay updates that they've added, can be turned off. So, you can have classsic game features or remaster features where ever they have been changed.

Campaign AI aswell as negatiation and diplomacy have been updated. AI can finally make naval invasions too.
