Early COD single player campaigns were good fun, along with early Splinter Cell games.
I couldn't get into Thief, but a lot of people liked that at the time.
Regrettably my Single player games became very rare from 2005.
I could give you a tonne of 90s games though

Capcom Collection - Steam
Megadrive Collection - Steam
Command & Conquer series - Origin
Gothic 1&2 - Steam & GoG - Get the Steam version as I have had issues running the GoG versions
Sacred Gold - Steam
Spellforce 1&2 - Steam
Thief 1, 2 & Deadly Shadows - Steam & GoG
Deus Ex - Steam & Gog
System Shock 2 - Steam & GoG
Sin - Steam
Ghost Recon & Rainbow Six (Original games) - Steam & GoG
TRON 2.0 - Steam
Delta Force series including Extreme - Steam
Elder Scrolls Morrowind & Oblivion - Steam - Moroblivion is now complete so you can run Morrowind in Oblivion with all the quest markers and nice visuals
Arx Fatalis - Steam
RUNE Classic - Steam
Strife - Veteran Edition - Steam
Giants Citizen Kabuto - Steam & GoG
Medal of Honor games including the reboot - Steam. Ran the reboot on a HP laptop when it was released no issues
Baldurs Gate and all the other Black Isle games - Steam & GoG
Lionheart - GoG - Similar to the Black Isle games and the way they play
Redneck Rampage - GoG - You just got to play this one for kicks. It's really funny.
Hidden & Dangerous 1&2 are excellent - Steam & GoG
I would definitely scope through GoG catalogue of games as they do have stuff on there that you will be able to run and what isn't on Steam. Everything from Shooters to RPG's etc
Also look into Emulation if you want really old stuff like C64, Spectrum, Megadrive, Amiga & Atari ST. A lot of games haven't aged well but there are plenty that have and will keep you entertained for a while. Turrican comes straight to mind with this is you like run n' gun games
