No. On a PvP server you get 3 different types of areas. Alliance, Horde and Contested. If you are an Alliance char and you are in an Alliance area you won't be PvP enabled, but you can chose to go PvP by the usual means (attacking Horde, typing "/pvp", healing/buffing someone who is PvP enabled). In Contested and Horde areas you WILL be automatically PvP enabled. Obviously this is vice-versa for Horde.

I personally thing the system is fine. If you are lvl lower than lvl 40 and choose to go pvp enabled and join in a battle you are free game on a PVE server. Its not ganking its not being mean. You had to choose to put yourself at risk.

Don't want to die easily, don't go PVP enabled. Simple fact is that i can probable kill anything up to lvl 35 ish in sub 10 seconds. 2 lvl 60 rogues can annihilate me in sub 5 seconds yet at lvl 49 thats the chance i take.

I can't comment on a pvp server as i chose that i wanted to control when other human players can kill me. Being ganked in a contested area when i'm low lvl questing is not my idea of fun.

Ganking imo can't happen on a PVE server. As you have made a personal choice to go into combat.

I've already had several instances of higher level pvp enabled players trying to get in my way when questing for me to accidently attack them, usually in stanglethorn vale.

Another one (which I'm sure is exploiting some sort of bug) is when a whole bunch of alliance constantly challenged me to duel with them while they were pvp-enabled and I wasn't.. Constantly by the way was for 10 minutes straight - as soon as I declined the duel, they re-challenged, again, and again, and again..

A major flaw (at least on Arathor) is the Arena, it's utterly pointless with the sheer level of alliance players on our server, you can easily find yourself outnumbered 10 - 1 or worse.

Yeah, mainly I'm talking about on PvP servers, and as comments made on the Guardian site, the States seem to have a big problem with ganking, just because you can do it...

Obviously on a PvE server, it's your choice to go PvP enabled or not, but even so, I was still annoyed at the odd situation where a high level Rogue would waste a stealthed attack on a lowly little Mage like myself, I mean, what was the point? I know I was PvP enabled and I probably blasted a couple of swear words at the monitor, but if I was a lvl 60 Mage, I wouldn't waste a couple of hundred mana throwing a phat Fireball up some level 20's arse to burn him to a cinder in a matter of milliseconds!

I agree with nearly everything you say TiG and I'm not suggesting that anything changes but what I can't get my head around is that the day before the honour patch is released, the Alliance had been 'ganking' XR on our PvE server and the day after we're saying that ganking doesn't exist on PvE servers?? Ignoring the player PvP option which, as you rightly say, is an individuals choice so you cant really complain when you get owned, the fact they still kill all the NPC's without penalty makes life difficult for those that choose not to engage in PvP activity.

What's the option? Switch on PvP, attempt to repell the attack and get killed over and over again or just ignore it and accept that my play experience is going to be soured by the actions of others. At the end of the day, I chose a PvE server for a reason, I pay the same subscription as everyone else, so why should suffer from not being able to complete quests and having lag issues that turns WoW into a stop-frame animation?

Yeah, although it is nice to be able to attack straight away, it would be better to have to type "/pvp" before you can actually attack anyone to stop this happening.

Blizzard enabled the ability to duel opposite factions due to request, so apparantly more people want to do it than not. It can be handy when you get 10+ Alliance gathering around you calling you chicken etc coz you don't go PvP, then you can challenge one of them and beat them down and laugh at them!

They are free for all, but the alliance more often than not work as a team, then only turn each other if there's no horde left..

Yeah, the 1 time i went there it was with some other Hexus guys and we were the only horde that i saw there, and all the allience were just sitting around (a few fighting each other) and as soon as I came out of stealth I was attacked by them all.
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

That's pretty much how it works. Anything below about 30 I can pretty much instantly kill. The two 35s that jumped me lasted ~7 seconds, and that was 2 at once.

On the whole ganking of NPCs and such, yes it can be a pain, but it's generally restricted to certain areas, and (on my server at least) it's not 24/7. Generally there's fighting at tarren mill and southshore, but that sways back and forth wildly so there should be ample opportunity to talk to NPCs in either. Don't forget that NPCs respawn incredibly fast, especially important ones like the flight master.

Yeah - i fear lvl 60 mages fire ones especially, presence of mind and pyroblast = OUCH.

instant cast flamestrike ? (like my shocks) and thats half my health gone instantly, follow up with cone of cold as instant strike and i'm pretty much dead, however you never attack a mage at full mana unless you are a rogue tbh. full mana mage = death incarnate imo.

Low mana mage = dead mage hehe.

One character that is really peeing me off at the moment is lvl 60 paladin's, keep getting mortal striked for 900+ dmg which seems a tad OTT for a melee class especially with 44.4% damage reduction.

How does a Fire Mage get PoM, it's an Arcane spell...

I suppose I'll have to fiddle about with my skill points to get half arcane and enough fire to get Pyro, Fireball range to 41y and the other ones like shock etc. Will have to check out what skill sets there are later on the WoW forums.
