i keep gettin this message when i connect threw hl. any ideas?
i'm not sure what causes it, i get it occaisioanally, normally i just try a different server.
whats your name on hl?
Check to make sure your firewall is configured properly. In ZA you can name the exe for FB, in Norton you can do the same thing.Make sure port 2100 is open too. If you have windows firewall on your connection, turn it off as its a bast to configure and if you're running another firewall, you don't really need it.
Also, in the options in FB, under the network tab, make sure you've set it to your conn speed.

Are you getting the timeout connecting to a game in HL or HL itself?
Have you tried direct connect to an IP address using the multiplayer option within FB, if so, do you get the same error?
i can get into HL, but when i try and join a game it times out, same things happens again if i go threw ubi.com
edit ** the direct IP thing dont work either :E
k, try disabling any firewalls and then connecting.
Its gotta be a firewall thing.

i aint got any fw up at all,and still nothin. everything else works. i reckon its becuase im networked to another pc, rather than threw a router :E
Connected thru a hub or a direct connect with a crossover cable?
I ask cos Zak and I networked here thru my hub and were both in HL with no probs.
If both pcs are running XP try running the network wizard on the gateway pc then using the config disk on your own. That was all I did with Zak to egt him online.
Just for your info (while Im thinking bout the problem) Its Port 21000 (an extra 0 needed) that is required to be opened when hosting. It dont need to be opened if you aint hosting.

Right.. the immediate thing that comes to mind.. is what version are you running?... as not running the same version of the game as the host results in a time out

Just for the record......irrespective of what you set your connection speed at....
MOST servers knock it back to 14.4 k modem.....
its fine that way
