    Guild Wars: First impressions

I loaded GW last night for the first time and eagerly waited as the updates installed and without reading the manual, created a warrior called Sir Duncan The Tall. I then began the quests for the warrior, finding Gwen's flute and luring bee's away from villages etc. It did feel strange compared to wow that’s for sure. I enjoyed the realism to the graphics and the immediate looting of various weapons and shields made the introduction to the game more fun and personal. The look to the armor and weapons is great, the glinting steel of a long sword looks sharp enough to slice through my tft. There are a few habits I’m finding hard to break such as left clicking npc to attack instead of right, trying to move the camera view and having to hold down the right mouse button to do so and when running at the same time doing this without changing my characters direction! ( I like to look behind and to the sides of myself as I’m fleeing death) Minor I know and still early days though heh. Now I only played through to lvl 2 as I had made prior engagements but so far me likey. I didn’t seem to get a choice of servers if that’s how things work in GW, but then again I haven’t read the books yet so I could have missed this altogether without knowing. How can I hook up with some guildies in game to start some serious leveling?

i did like 1st few levels of playin a warrior, they are so fun.. hack and slash! but the wonders of WoW pulled me back, theres alot more to wow and i dont think i could really leave it for GW coz its very limited to what you can and cant do... LIKE JUMP!! whats the score there? u cant have a game like that without jump! DUDE!!

Yes jump was a feature I was hoping to discover when I read the book Another thing, I felt the inability to fall off an eight foot ledge in the town square a bit inhibiting! Never the less it's early days so I shall reserve judgment also the good has out weighed the bad so far, especially the £25 that won't be coming out my bank account on a regular basis; along with the tv licence and wot-not it all adds up you know ( thats what I tell myself anyway )

One of the beauties about Guild Wars is that it loads up quicker than your MSN Messenger logs in.

its more of an rpg game, very different to wow.

your challenge is to complete the game using the most noobs as possible and get wiped out many times by useless players who aggro everything....no wait that does sound like wow

its all about the missions, not leveling, and there are no tedious quests to kill a monster and then run back.

i enjoy playing it, but not that often, as im very near the end and dont have a lot of gaming time anymore, which i spend elsewhere.

if your needing help in the missions just ask here or in the big GW post and im sure someone will say when they are on and can give you a hand.

I'm still on quite a bit. Finished Fahrenheit so playing this again even though I have finished it, trying to do the Titan quests but they are extremely hard to do, done all the quests at the furnace which was superb.

I play this for a while nearly every night to see if anyones on and have a wander about, if not I am playing Thief 3 so give me a shout if you need any help.

Cant wait till Chapter 2 is released next year as I prefer the RPG side of the game and am quite good with directions on alot of the maps now so can be quite helpful for getting quests finished

I will be quitting WoW when the next subs come round. Was going to cancel it before buit missed it by a day So I am paid up for a few months yet

That said I will probably just ignore it a lot. So I really need something else to consider, as noted above GW or BF2. I appreciate GW has role play element, and BF2 might have immediate action, but practicality wish, which costs?

I know GW is free (except any upgrades) and BF2? is it free on Gamespy, but for $10 per year you can join and play on members servers (with no cheating). Apart from Anarchy Online (did not like at all) WoW is all I have played, so relative newby still to online games

I am in no rush to get anything, but if peeps are flying up 'levels' I will miss out on team work with good peeps

    Any and all thoughts welcome.

PS Rafe - just upgraded to this after other machine gave up on me. Have not had time to tweak, but have Asus A8N SLI board with 3500 xp64 chip. So I might tweak a bit more out of it than ya Hehe

Well I have gone and ordered GW, only £17.99. So if it is no good, not a lot lost But fingers crossed it will be fun.

Would have ordered BF2, saw it for £19.99, but when it came to taking the plunge I could not find that price again. So its a pass for now on that.

So by the weekend, patches permitting, you might see me in there I will post char name when known and seek you all out.

im looking into getting "guilds war" (many people spell it wrong, its guilds war not guild wars, not trying to be a pest, just saying!) looks very nice and sleek, although i havent yetplayed an mmo apart from runescape which is real poo, but GW looks promising! the only reason i would choose GW over WoW is because of the monthly's, i dont like that stuff...

what iv heard of so far it seems like GW is a gem, though many people flame it (usually WoW people) but that wont put me down, its just really beautiful scenary and other stuff

It's not that I don't believe you... but why does it say Guild Wars on my box, my Start Menu and the website?
