I dont really think Team Speak is much good :(

    Which is a shame.

I tried it tonight with Deck.......

First thing....it seems to use the EAX effects from the IL2.....which Ventrillo never did. So when I talk, its echoed according to cockpit conditions etc.

What have I got set wrong? Or is it like that all the time for you all? I have an Audigy.

Also.....I have to hear my own silly arse voice even when not talking to you....it comes through the speakers/headphones all the time...which in turn creates Feedback.

Ventrillo didnt do that..it muted the mic when not in use....

    SO.......what am I doing wrong?

It was weird, I had a BSOD just after loading it, booted back up and all was ok, then after a few minutes Zak's transmissions seemed to be just an echo of what I had said, then I started to get my PC echo back what I said each time I transmitted....

Later on, after shutting TS down and starting it again I had a quick word with Tumble and the echo had gone completely, though Tumble was a touch distorted... but I put that down to the in-breeding rather than TS.

Inbreeding???? cheeky sod. You were dead quiet as well m8, and the audio was rather choppy. Not at all the clear, bell like tones of Ventrilo..... anyone got the old server gubbins around so they can whack a server online?

OK...so is it agreed that Ventrillo might be worth having somewhere?

Cos I have no idea who would host a server for us, IF we could find the right Server Software...

I stil have Ventrillo client software hosted tho.

Anyone can host as long as their on adsl or equilvalent.
(best for someone to get a dns name for it tho over at www.dyndns.org then get the update proggy to keep it active)

What Ts server where u using and what were the server settings ?

Also when u say u could hear yourself ?? I can't, thats a setup issue. Do you have voice detection enabled ? or are you hearing your voice through someone elses connection that has voice enabled ?

You should really set a key to talk.

We use it for aao all the time and tbh we don't get many problems bar when people alt+tab out of game etc.

Are you using the latest version of TS ?

I have to activate my Mic input on my Audigy (but thats what I have to do on Ventrillo)

I use a Button to Speak set up...

BUT once the mic is activated, with or without a push of the speak button, I CAN HEAR MYSELF through my own speakers.

The team only hear me when I push the button.

Ventrillo didnt do that....I muted the mic UNTIL I pushed the button.

    OK.....BIG U-TURN TIME.......

    *SCREETCH OF BRAKES, TIGHT TURN

I'm gonna U Turn tighter than a Politician now.

I just Muted the Mic in my sound card, and Hat assures me he could hear my apaling, nasal, squeak, as clear as "Mary Has a Little Lamb"

Button Activation is the way to go tho.......voice activation was ropey.

    FOR THE RECORD:

    CELP 5.1 Kbit
    Sound Driver :Wave

Slider set to Better Sound Quality.
    Bandwidth up and down Unlimited

Double click the speaker bottom right cormer of Win Desktop....Mute Microphone but have slider at 75%

Also Muted Line in.....just in case wrong plug was ever used by summit else by accident.

Microphone needs to be in your mouth for a good transmission

    lmao

It's a known issue with ts that alt+tab causes problems, they've wangled a fix into it as a temporary measure as the problem doesn't happen to everyone or all the time.

The newest version of ts, gets rid of it mostly but it still occurs if you repeatedly do it

They are working on a new version of TS to try to solve it, and they are continually updating it to make it better. Tbh for a completely free piece of software it hasn't got many problems, and they're endeavouring to maintain it's free status, whereas ventrillo have moved over to having to pay for the server side I believe on last looking.

It's why gsv runs the ts servers, if used properly it's a godsend, I've used to old ventrillo and it was pretty good, but didn't have a few of the features of ts from recolection.

I think that the current version of ventrillo may be pretty good aswell tho, they all have their bugbears tho. I'm not sure on how easy the ventrillo software is to set up on a dedicated server. Might go have a look at it again see what it's like. Clingy would be dead chuffed if I ask him to change our TS server over to ventrillo lol

One other feature thats really good about the TS server software is that we can have several server all using different ports and it's easy to manage on a dedicated server using a vnc connection, as GSV has now

Righty ho... been to PC World and got me a new Gamevoice, (cos the controller on the old one has broked) and took advantage of the 2 4 1 offer and got one for Zak too!

That should save the poor old man's back from having to lean forward DJ stylee whenever he wants to talk....

The trick now will be shutting him up!

    you're all MINE now....hehe

The only thing I cant find is how to change the input into the software.

In Ventrillo, you choose which input, ie what channel from the sound card. So MIC normally......BUT....when sat in a bomber, with Clingy mumbling about windspeed, and Tumble having eaten baked beans all day........you need MUSIC.

I need to be able to play STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN over the network

    and I cant with this
