PC or Fact? Purdy Planes

Due to "some" countries' publishing laws.. the Swastika is not shown on the planes, even though these were obiously there irl

So.. if you wanna get the correct markings on your plane, you will need to enable them, very nicely done using a programme from the Hyperlobby main website.

.. I say this,, becaues I have seen how some pple react as soon as the word swastika is mentioned. Personally, I think it looks great on the planes,, cos thats how my airfix models looked

I really don't understand the logic of not displaying a swastika. I am puzzled that people are not offended by seeing a German fighter plane which was itself a symbol of the Third Reich and the embodiment of the German war machine, but the moment that it has the authentic markings on the tailplane it becomes offensive.

As you say Hat, a Me109 doesn't look like a 109 without a swastika on the tail, I've made many model kits , from Spits to Hurris to 190's, and I won't consider a german fighter plane finished until it has the authentic markings on the tail.

Frankly those offended shouldn't be playing the game at all.

I suppose that it's because of what the Swastika was used to represent. I can understand that many, many people would find it offensive, especially as it is now linked with far right parties like the BNP.

Also, I think mainly because of the shame of the atrocities that happened in Germany during WW2, the swatika is banned there. So games like Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Medal of Honour have no swastika emblems in them for that regional release.

I think that gamers can decide for themselves whether they want an authentic experience or not and I fully support and use the patches to allow swastikas to be displayed. Games like RTCW don't particulary need them as it's more of an arcade game... but Battlefield 1942 does, it's more of a simulation. Hence sims like IL2 should need them too, but I think it is right to leave them out. Of course Oleg could have put in an option to display swatikas or not, defaulted to off, but I have a feeling that Russia's general opinion of the swatiska is similar to that of Germany.

Also, films like Indiana Jones, Saving Private Ryan etc etc have the images digitally removed or blurred out. I saw Raiders of the Lost Ark on a ferry back from Denmark and all Nazi images were blurred!

I belive its dues to German Law with forbids use of any of the 3rd Reich symbolism in media.

In a way I can see their point - its a hell of a skelleton to have in your cupboard , but why should we in the UK have to conform to the law ?

It was nothing to do with my sillyhol intake..
Remember how aaaages ago I mentioned my gfx used to go all kaledescopey they did it again, think I'm gonna have to do a gfx card upgrade as the machines been locking up in IL2 and when I put new drivers on it goes funny..
