Can WoW Really Be That Good?

I've been really contemplating anotehr MMO recently, probably next time theres a lengthy school holiday as I don't have time otherwise

I bought guild wars last summer, played it religiously in the hols but quickly tired of it. Everybody raves on about WoW but can it really be that much different? Don't get me wrong, I really liekd GW whiule it lasted, but it got repetitive.

What are the main differences between GW and WoW that make the latterworth a monthly fee? Also is it too late to start playing it now? I understand it has been out quite a while, I'm not sure of the lifespan on MMO's

It does get repetitive very quickly - usually around the level 20-25 and 40-45 50-55 marks
That's what I and many others I knew while playing found.

It's a great experience while you're new to it, but I think as long as you take regular breaks from playing it should be fun - you could play it for a few months and then quit if you're bored... but you know what they say... you never REALLY quit.

I've only started playing recently and it is good fun for the most part but it is repetitive, that is the nature of the genre really.

Despite its repetitiveness it is quite addictive and you can always focus on different things each time you play. Recently for example I have been focusing on my mining and fishing stats and not bothering with the main quests.

Been playing since release and still loving it, once you reach 60 (maximum level) there's a few options of what to do, but it's all about the poeple you play with once you reach level 60 IMO. Find a guild of friendly skilled players and you'll do well and have fun doing whatever you decide to do.
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

I started on Chrismas and it atm is my favourite game all year There are many things that sets it apart from Guild Wars, one of the main things are that with Guild Wars the citys are the only places with many players - in WoW, the whole world (except for Dungeon instances - think of them as little final levels with ultra high difficulty enemies) is active, I mean while questing or travelling you can bump into people battling, etc. As well as that, there are COUNTLESS other differences. I guess the best thing would be to try it out for yourself ;p

WoW is indeed very social, I couldn't imagine going back to Guild Wars, there are so many aspects to it but ofcourse if you play to death you'll get bored (which would take a long long time). Also, if you were to get it, experiment with classes and servers, making sure you'll get the most out of it.

Just keep in mind that if you are new you are best joining a new server as you'll have more people in the same level range than you and less fully geared people who will cut you in half by looking at you. And if you aren't too sensitive to violence go for a pvp server - its more fun.

I think what you need to ask yourself is... how much time do you have spare.
If you're the sort of person that really involves yourself in MMOs and can't get enough of socialising/playing with a guild and aim to reach the very top no matter how long it takes, then Wow is DEFINITELY for you.
Although some people claim to never get bored and have been loving every minute since the start, a significant number of people think differently.
It's all about your online gaming community loyalty - if you're more of a casual adventuring type then I'd still recommend it, but be careful not to get sucked in too much or you may end up regretting it.
If you don't dedicate a certain amount of time to it, you may find yourself getting frustrated that you're not getting to do all this cool stuff that others are.
Basically as iMc said, it's the nature of the genre, but don't believe Blizzard when they say WoW is different.. levelling is important and takes dedication just like any other MMO

Basically go buy it, you WILL enjoy it, but how much you will enjoy it is up to how much time and patience ( ) you have.

Been playing for over a year now and still very much in love with it. I am in a very good guild and we are doing all the end game content which is good fun. If I were not in a guild I don't think I would still be playing.

Sorry mate, but you are talking bollocks. Just because you don't get to make mooncloth it doesn't mean that someone should be robbed of a chance to try a different experience playing an alt!

It's not bollocks, it's my opinion. Start an alt on another server, it's the first mmorpg I have played where you can have alts, so I guess i'm just not used to it.
