You can get a 14-day Ultima Online free trial here: http://www.uo.com/demo.html

It's been recently announced that EA are completely rebuilding the game client and it looks very promising, judging by the spoiler shots here: http://www.uo.com/UOKRpressrelease.html

oops should have mentioned Im a wow player, just wanted to see what else was on the market

With the trial key just download the client use your key and play, you dont have to buy anything and your key will expire after the 10 day.

You then choose to continue or not

Ryzom is worth a shout. Its free for as long as you stay on the starter island, which has got a fair bit to do.

Check it out, its pretty popular even though youve probably never heard of it

    http://www.ryzom.com

Oh just to add, it's not a pick up and play game like WoW, you have to think and learn through trial and error, nobody to hold your hand in this game .

Similarly, Silkroad online is another Wow lookalike (which does not work well on my computer but works a hell of a lot better on my cousin's computer - worst specs than mine, however bf2 works on mine and not his - hmm??!)

when i used trial i had to buy my own copy after 10 day since you dont have a valid key then

btw planetside offer free trail you can play till they get too many paying players (but your rank is stuff you can learn is limited)

    No.

Once your trial is over, you then have to go and buy the full retail version and input a retail key to continue - you still get your free 30days ets though..

Also trial accounts are limited - so you can't recieve in game mail, can't trade, can't do a few other things too..nothing major for the first few levels though, you're not likely to recieve any mail unless your making a twink..which you can't be doing without a L60 anyway

    free MMOG

I've been playing a free MMOG that I like a lot. It has lots of components including planet development, buying and selling, and some battles. It is turn based so can also have some dead times of waiting. But I will warn you, it can also be addicting.

Check it out, and find me playing in real time.

    You missed the vital link

I was a WoW player since the first open beta, can't believe how long ago that was! WoW's been so good for the mmo sector, its brought hundreds of thousands of new players into the genre. I've been playing mmo's since Legend of Mir, that was about 6 years ago i think, and its so hard now to touch any other game because you just don't get the same level of interaction and gameplay.

Theres 5 highly anticipated mmo's coming out over the next year. LOTR, Warhammer and Conan are 3 of them, and each look pretty promising. There was a good article over at bit tech about them.
