I suggested he tried my all time favourite way to learn 3d spacial awareness.
Set up a Quick Mission Builder with UNLIMITED ammo, unlimited fuel, and 8 enemy 109 E4's (oldest version) set at Rookies.
Then grab your favourite plane, make sure you only use cockpit view (no externals) and turn OFF Anti Aircraft flack, as this will be a wild, roller coaster of a game, covering a lot of distance. You need a fast machine..a good climber as you'll soon lose the adnvatage when there's so many of them.
Then, start at 3000 m altitude, and go kill the lot!
When they're set to Rookies, they miss most shots, so you don't have to be uber, BUT you do need to know where they all are, or they gang up.
Make sure you choose a plane that's more powerful and better....the guns are secondary tbh, as the getting in a firing position whilst being brave about the other 7 is most important.....as noob pilots, they turn gently and climb into your sights a fair bit.
I stalled a few times, while climbing and turning tight (retaining E) and then spotting someone else, or hearing a 109 engine up my chuff.
But my Yak3 did the whole lot of them :)
