is it worth getting? i have the original version and really like it, despite not liking warhammer at all.

It's rather good, with a decent variety of maps and races. There is a risk style campaign map that works reasonably well.
There is a decent last map for each race, so you need to complete it at least twice to complete all the last maps.

It was lots of fun to play.

I'd have to say its my favourite RTS, intense action and the kicker is u don't need the disc to play, so u can have up to 8-player lan games with one disc, which is about as much fun as you can have on your pc

3v3 on Kasr Lutien is just great

the intro for the first game is awesome isnt it....
Almost makes me think they should do an adult themed (as in graphically violent like the intro) animation series of it

dark crusade is pretty good, tho the single player game isnt very involving as theyve basically just done a kind of risk map to link up lots of normal skirmish games...

Still its pretty damn cheap for two extra armies to use/play against...

Although CoH is soooo much better, at least the gameplay is better, 40k setting is still kick ass.

one thing to say "Kill animations"

the dowpro mod makes it a more balanced game. Worth getting otherwise you slowly stop playing against necron players. The balance has gone all whacky for tournies....

Yeh i'd agree with those last 2 points there. The 2 extra races is very nice for multiplayer but the skirmish gets a bit boring.

Where the campaign realy shines is on the missions to wipe out the enemy home territories. Each of these is quite characterful and i found the Necron one particulary fun (you have to plant a bomb to collapse their caverns)
However the rest of the missions you're best playing by one rule:

Don't let the enemy build a base

This means rush them as fast as possible with your starting units - otherwise you'll be upto your elbows in a 3 hour fight for a insignifcant bit of land. The defences are completed in a similar fasion. Since each territory remembers the structures you origonaly built you just have to make sure you build lots of turrets near to (not on top of or they'll disappear) where the enemy base will be when they attack.

It's worth buying certainly though i got bored of the campaign once i got my lord to daemon prince - i still haven't completed it (have never done the eldar or imperial guard home territories).
