    Time for a new camera...

My Fuji Finepix F700 has finally given up

...so I am looking to replace it!
Want to spend £200 or less for a digital compact, minimum 3mp, minimum 3 x optical zoom, and good macro function. Ideally automatic focus etc as well as the option to change ISO / shutter speeds etc. (which I had with the F700)

There are so many to choose from... its a bit of a minefield.

As I have been very pleased with Fuji so far, so am going to aim for another I think, and having looked around, the Fujifilm F30 seems like quite a good bet.

Does anyone have any opinions on this, or any better suggestions..??

    Thanks!

I've had a lot of sobering thoughts in my time.... It was them that started me drinking.

not sure what the f30 is like for macro but it ticks all the other boxes? It's definitely rated as probably the best compact for image quality, particularly in low(ish) light. No doubt there will be other cameras more suited to macro shots but probably only really if you are going to light your subject well?

..I'm dithering between getting the f30 or the f6500(or indeed the 9600!), ...I want the functionality of the SLR-like camera but I'm not sure I will use it much due to it's considerably larger size! Might give in and get both over the course of the year

    Smile fuji 6500

Go for the 6500 without a doubt the picture quality is superb at any price. I am a professional photographer using Nikon D200/D2x bodies and was the victim of an attempted mugging in Madrid 3 weeks ago, the mugger was after my D200. I decided upon my return that it would be wise to go for something less valuable to use on my extensive travels so got a 6500 not expecting anything fantastic. The image quality and tonal gradation from this "point and shoot"is something else, incredible! I have used many compacts and I can honestly say this one is in a different league, the fine jpegs are good but shoot raw files and convert them to tiffs and it is difficult to tell the difference between them and files from my D200 at enlargements up to 15"x 10"!

erm ... the 6500 is hardly a compact! It does have the exact same sensor as the f30 / fs1fd compacts though as I understand it so you can keep the sensor quality.

The 6500 looks like a great camera for the money but sadly it won't fit in my pocket like the f31! I was thinking about getting both of them...

Well guys, Fuji came up trumps and repaired the entire camera, including changing the case (as it had a small ding in it)...for free

They did attempt to bill us their standard £100 but I had a word and pointed out that it was ok when it came to them for a repair on one item and it came back broken in another way.

    She's sorted.

And so am I...having just purcahsed chriswood's Dimage Z10. New posts imminent
