    Question Canon Powershot A710IS - thoughts ?

Got my eye on the A710IS, any thoughts ? Any suggestions for another one around ~150 quid ?

    Thanks

personally I'm still set on a fuji f31 though I guess it depends what sort of conditions/situations you normally take photos in? the review on www.dpreview.com sold it for me.

Only dilemma is whether I want 28mm equivalent and raw enough to put up with a bulky camera and get the 6500fd instead! aaaargh. I hate making decisions.

    its a very usable camera

6x optical zoom - IS (image stabilization)

    can get these extras
    • Optional Tele-converter 1.75x lens (TC-DC58N)
    • Optional Wide-converter 0.7x lens (WC-DC58N)
    • Optional Close-Up Lens 250D (58mm
    • Optional High Power Flash (HF-DC1)
    • Optional Waterproof case WP-DC6

very useable upto ISO400 - 800 becomes very noisy (to be expected with a compact camera)

    few cons
    # Highlight clipping and occasional over-exposure in bright, contrasty conditions
    # Combined card / battery compartment can make changing cards without losing the batteries fiddly
    # Zoom is a bit jumpy (not enough steps between 35 and 210mm)
    # No dedicated button for ISO and no custom modes / shortcuts
    # Our sample had occasional auto orientation errors (landscape shots being tagged for rotation unnecessarily)
    # Slow flash recycling (and fairly slow shot-to-shot times in general)
    # Low res and very slightly laggy screen

Really want the longer zoom and image stabilisation of the A710IS.

Anyone on here with real experience of the A710IS ?

I've used the A700 - same thing but without image stab and 6mp instead of 7. It was EXCELLENT - great image quality. If you want a bit more optical zoom then the Canon Powershot cameras are very good. I'd buy one especially if you can get it for £50 off from Jessops or where-ever on a bank holiday weekend special.
