That's interesting, because I was on manual Having said that, metering properly is one of those things I constantly struggle to get right. I'd appreciate any comments you've got there, maybe I went overboard with post-processing?

As for the other comment about aircraft noise, the Typhoon wasn't as noisy as I've heard it before (set off dozens of car alarms at Duxford in May). The Gripen is much louder, and the F18 is ear splitting , made me feel for all the babies people had brought with them. It would have been nice to see the B1 up, but for some reason it stayed firmly on the static display.

[edit] The wet weather did give me a few pleasing shots like this one though:

Incredible sight, love the 'jetstream' in its wake

I've gotta go to one of these shows - still never been to one. Out of interest i'm on the doorstep of Biggin hill - is it a decent event or is it worth travelling a little further affield?

I'll have a few aircraft shots up from day 1 of the Lowestoft Air Festival in a bit - I'm still drying out after the downpour at the end of the flying..

Adjusted the tone, contrast and colour, gave it a touch more exposure and some sharpening to bring out the details.

    Re: Photo-a-day

Adjusted how? I had a bit of a play with the original RAW, but couldn't come up with anything that I wa happier with than the original. Regarding the sharpening, are you using unsharp mask, or the high pass filter and hard light trick? I've always used the second.

I should probably say I'm using Elements 6 and Adobe Camera RAW, and have learned by the time old fiddling around method

    Re: Photo-a-day

Just the auto tone, contrast and colour settings in Photoshop CS4 (image->auto tone/contrast/colour), they are very good actually for sorting things like this out, it'll either get it very right or very wrong.

As for the sharpening, yes, unsharp mask.

Tried your tips out, I like the results

Here's one of my favourite shots of the day, sun from behind onto some horrendous clouds that had just drenched us. The pilot chose ELO's "Mr Blue Sky" as his display music, just as the clouds broke
