Yeah, I tried cloning it out to be honest, but I'm just not good enough.
As for the effect, I whack the clarity down to 0 and fiddle with the curves a bit, boosting midtone contrast, brightness and highlights. I sometimes give it a hard light high pass filter as well. The amounts are purely subjective and I'm very wary of overdoing it like someone who discovers animated text in powerpoint :)
Nice shot crazy :)
Some from Ullswater at the weekend - not wonderful at times but Saturday morning was very calm pre-dawn.
First three are long exposures - third one was 265 seconds - bit of a colour cast with a combination of the B&W110 and the Hitech filters but not fussed to be honest as LE aren't exactly realistic to begin with. Last is a coimbo of two in photomatix to make the most of a wee bit of pink by Arthurs Pike.

Breathtaking.... just, inspiring.
You have an eye for it pal, you need to get some of this work into a coffee table book because I can tell you now, I'd buy it.
Cheers mate - I had a wee look at that Blurb site that Bobster mentioned. Tempted to do a book on Ullswater for the family as a sort of cheapskate present :)
Wow, there be some very amazing and inspiring photos in this thread, well done peeps. How many posts do I have to make before I can upload some photos of my own??? I suppose I will have to do it this way for now.

These were taken on a Sony Ericsson W910i
What is that second photo of consfearacy?
consfearacy - all you need to do is add those links into an image marker, thats the yellow thing that looks like a mountain just above the chat entry box, tooltip says "insert image".
Going for a moody mono - liked the single tree set apart from the wood and the clouds seemed to be quite suited to it.

Hate to criticise any of your photos kushtibari, but the micro-contrast for the ground doesn't work for me with the smooth clouds. Too much halo around horizon objects as well from either the USM or tone map I guess.
I wouldn't go for the tone mapped ground, just blend the sky exposure and ground exposure for those elements in their entirety, and then use contrast/dodge/burn to dramatise.
No problem. Criticism is good mate :)
Nearly at the end of my first year at taking 'proper' pics and whilst I'm happy with progress in some areas my editing is still pants in most cases. In my defence it looks better on the 27" screen here and less good as a photobucket image. Certainly no real signs of halos. I need to go for a full editing package and might pick up elements at the weekend or jump for the full photoshop package. I have photomatix and ACDSee. I used photomatix to convert it to mono and then ACDSee for a couple of other touches - I was going for a more painterly look. Instead of going out so much I need to just sit down and go through the whole process - workshop booked for the end of February so hopefully I'll get a bit of guidance then.
I'll see if ACDSee has a number 6 Robert :)
