A bit of messing around at home

interesting, I'll have to try that :)
suppose I should really post SOMETHING in the thread I started :p

Probably the stupidest thing I've done while drunk, but thankfully nobody was harmed but, as you can see from the picture, it was a close call!!

Not quite an accurate recreation of William Tell! :P Pepper instead of an apple; dart instead of a crossbow; and last time I checked, paper isn't particularly good at stopping darts, unless it's encharted; say Paper +1, or Paper of Spearblock? :)
This is my first attempt at a panorama I took whilst in Japan. Quite impressed at Photshop's job of it. Original image was about 30,000 pixels wide! I couldn't quite square it up because I would lose the top of the statue. You can also see on closer inspection that a couple of photos were blurred.

I have some more attempts at panoramas from Japan to go through. Hopefully they'll turn out better.
OK, I've managed to stitch together a 360 degree view taken from the top of Tokyo Tower. I think there were about 50 photos in all! Unfortunately, it was still a bit hazy. Must be an amazing view when it is clear.

(Hmm, imageshack's thumbs don't seem to work too well with panoramas!)

it does a great job rather easily. (and is free)
Another exercise about to take place starting Monday for 12 days. This is to be a 'low level flying training course ' in the North of Scotland involving Harrier and Tornado jets, Lynx helicopters, and a VC 10 airliner. Three typhoon aircrafts from the Italian air force will also be joining in the exercise which will take place mainly in the afternoons and involved low level sorties as far apart as the electronic warfare tactics range at Spadeadam in Cumbria and the target range near Tain in Easter Ross ( North of Scotland ) . Keep watching them sky's :)
I love the late afternoon sun on this one, especially after a day of showers :)

My favourite image of my travels so far.
Sony a200 - SAM50F18 Lens (50mm)
F1.8 1/500s
Head of the bird/eagle seems a tiny bit out of focus.
Except that i think it's superb!
could be that the lens needs to be stopped down.. or a little more practice shooting 1.8
one from Underworld @ Camden last night, not going to be rushing back there in a hurry..

Terrible terrible weather for a trip back to my old haunting grounds.
I haven't dared play with the GIMPs perspective tool yet, sorry!

And I know this isn't a panorama, but hopefully you get the idea :p 9mm isn't wide enough!

Sony A700, Tamron 17-50mm, f/4, 1/15s, ISO 800
Really good for the ISO and shutter speed yorkie. There's a visible bright line between the church and the sky which could be due to sharpening - I'd use a layer+mask to only sharpen the stonework, which might also reduce noise in the sky (though that's not at all distracting).

Right first time. :)
First time out playing with my new Christmas present (lens). All taken along Broad street in Reading this afternoon :)
It's big and heavy and you don't go unnoticed by a long shot! But I love it. A few pics:
So busted with the girl. LOL

That's a scary looking elf.
What time were you taking photos? Also, what lens and camera? (Exif isn't showing)
I was in The Oracle around 3pm but didn't stay long. I really don't like crowds and it was packed.
Yeah, some young kids were curious but scared at the same time!
I was walking around 3. Parked next to the pentahotel on the IDR, but it was only a 30 minute max stay jobbie. Arrived at 2:45 when a rather cute parking officer smiled at me (I have a thing for chicks in uniform :embarrassed:), obviously showing the "I've seen you arrive at 2:45. You now have 30 minutes" look on her face. LOL
Exif is in the photos if you take the extension and replace XL with O. An annoyance with smugmug who only show the exif on original files, not resized ones...
Anyway, to cut to the chase, Nikon D700 with 200mm f/2 VR lens. All shot wide open at f/2, mostly around 1/320s, ISO varying between 200 and 400 :)
edit: and crikey, it was crowded indeed. Not easy to take candids with so many people around, field of view being broken every half second by passers by :)
edit2: I'm probably going back a bit later for some night shots. Will wait till around 6:30 so I can park on the yellows. If you want to meet up, drop me a pm :)
Nice though!
No. I don't know if there are many, and I haven't looked to be honest. My working hours and availability are a bit erratic too.
Yup, it's big and heavy, bot not that long. Just so, uhm, how can I say it, girthy :O_o1:
It is indeed. Big, scary investment as I hadn't played around with one before and in a way, it's very particular and you need to have a use for it, but I don't regret it at all. Just need to practice with it.
what will you be using it for primarily if I may ask?
Commissioned candids - if that doesn't sound contradictory :)
I'm doing more and more family / child shoots, and in certain conditions, it's just nice to have the reach, particularly for the more candid stuff. Using the 85mm f/1.4 for more classic and posed stuff. :) I had been hesitating between the 200/2 and 300/2.8 and went for the 200 because it's a bit more unique, arguably more flexible because with 1.4 TC, you get near the 300/2.8, oh and it's a grand cheaper!
I'm hoping to find more uses as time goes by :)
Thanks Blastuk. It is nice. Everybody I know who has this shoots almost exclusively wide open :)
Another few from last night with a Christmassy theme. I guess if I'm posting today, it's ok?
Taken near the pizza hut on riverside, next to the Xmas sausage hotdog round stall thing (next to chili's)

A quick sunset I grabbed tonight. First time I've been out and back on the forum since getting up to Win 7

Yeah, I should probably work on the sharpening there.
I'm with kalniel - don't sharpen it any more. That softness gives it a nice mysterious dreamy quality which goes so well with those beautiful colours :)
Evening everyone.. this picture is a few weeks old.. i do like it.. much prefer it in B+W..
its nothing really amazing.. the scene just kind of caught my eye..

Reminds me of the cover of (What's The Story) Morning Glory?
I like.
Finally got some time, so I'm going through a lot of my shots creating final versions. Looking for some advice on this one. Firstly, I know it won't be to everyone's taste. But for those who might be interested, what do you like, and more importantly, what don't you like?
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4009/...982ecffe_o.jpg
There's lots to like about it, but I agree that the sloping horizons either side (presumably perspective distortion, but looks like barrel distortion) make it look a bit off balance. Slight overkill on the dodge/burning of the sky - might look fine on a full sized print of course.
tbh I think I prefer the previous version of that shot adam but I think I know where you were going with this version
just to add my own picture to this thread...

im no pro at taking pictures :) in fact ive only had a half decent camera for about a month!
Matty - no, sorry. This one's hopefully going to be exhbited in Edinburgh this summer though if you'd like to buy a copy - at the moment I'm working on 1.7m pieces, probably single photorag prints.
Here's an update on the PP - the edges need burning back in but I'm fairly happy on the toning of the building and sky now:
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2639/...fb7b0742_o.jpg
^^Love the pic, but two things leap out at me, it looks like it needs rotating anti-clockwise by about 0.4~0.6 degrees (ish) and also the sky looks blown on my monitor, especially the left of the tower and the bottom right of the tower.

For some reason Windows 7 keeps changing colour profiles so the photo viewer looks different to Canon DPP and Firefox. A few of the photos look more yellow than I thought. My monitor's colours are pretty bad as well.
looks pretty decent here..
a nice capture but, you need to close your aperture, the feathers are lacking in detail :\
The problem with having to grab a camera and taking shots quickly through a window is I don't get time to put on my CPL! I think I'm going to have to start leaving it on the lens..
http://img63.imageshack.us/img63/5443/mjack2.jpg
http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/3548/mjackpair.jpg
shove the end of the lens up against the glass to remove reflections..
great captures anyway, not every day you get a couple of deer in your back garden!
that is a great picture! where abouts are you base'd?
Hertfordshire - an aptly named county :)
That's just the crummy lens. :P It's a Sigma 50-500mm, which is rather soft in my experience. God knows why I bought it. Probably the "wow, 500mm" factor. That robin photo was at f/7.1, which I would have thought would be enough to sharpen it a bit. It was also after 3pm, so the sun was disappearing.
The colour comment was more in relation to some of the others on my Flickr account. They seemed ok in editing, then looked yellow when I uploaded them.
This is a very very very old picture, before i really new anything about editing, but i still like it.. simple shoot with my x g/f, found it on a random cd and thought id upload it today :D
dont like the annoying lights in the background, but still. :D just thought id share it with every one..

Going across to the inlaws for dinner on Christmas Day and this was the view in my mirror. Penrith shrouded in fog with the sun lighting up the clouds over Ullswater.
One of those times you wished you had a decent camera (and knew how to take use it).
