Are you a member on NikonCafe? There's a fantastic post explaining the focus options and how you can use them. I'll have a ready and see if their rules allow me to post here. edit: http://www.nikoncafe.com/vforums/sho...d.php?t=196906
Hi TheAnimus,
Lovely photo of Kingfisher. I like the idea.
What camera did you use and what technique you used to shot this photo?
I'm not, but thanks for the info, I'll definitely give it a read! :)
A portrait of my girlfriend from our recent trip to Wales. I have no idea about the "rules" of portrait photography so there may be some improvements I could make.

That's been said a lot over at talkphotography where I've also posted it. I'm not sure if it's my eyes or what, but it looks fine to me, but if you plus quite a few others say it doesn't look right, then I must be doing something wrong! I had no idea about smoothing so I just googled it and used the first result, which was a surface blur.
tfboy, just a nikon nifty 1.8, f2.5, 1/5000th, spot metering :)
That's a stunning shot, the sharpness really adds to the eeriness of the churchyard. The cross is an interesting shot, but doesn't really "do it" for me, although I can't put my finger on why :undecided
Meanwhile at Sywell:

Here you go, out of cam (full version on flickr if you prefer). People provided edits on tp but I'm not really convinced with any of them

better or worse for you?
The crops I like, but the skin looks a little too bright to me, but then my monitor is a cheap 'never been calibrated in its life' dell that's about 8 years old so it probably looks good if I was able to view it as it's meant to be :)
TBH I quite liked your original version, but I don't seem to see colours that well.
