Ok, so I had a day of yesterday and finally found the chance to grab some half decently light portraits with my new 17-50 2.8.

Hans ... like all three of those shots. What's with number two though? Looks like a photo of a model of the Silver Pagoda, how did you get that effect? Lots of sharpening?

or you shoot a model with a macro lens

Then in PS I have a healing layer for some dry skin he had, then just a small S curve adj-layer, brought in the highlights slider a smidge on the levels adj-layer. I then sharpened the imaged with an Unsharp mask at, Amount 70%, Radius 1, Threshold 10.

For the web display image I then down sized it and applied further sharpening for web viewing.

The image is uncropped.

stay clear of USM, look at using a high pass with hard light layer..

Rugger ..... like those shots....quite an improvement over some of the previous ones

Thanks I feel like I'm improving myself, the more observing I do, the better I'm getting at spotting good light and composition. Tips from here have helped immensely

It's a miniature on an incense stall in front of the actual big one, I shot it with the Zeiss 25/2.8. And I shot film, except for an USM of 40%/R5/T2 no more post-processing is applied

ok dupe the final image and then set the mode to hard light, then run the high pass around 1.5, tweek to taste depending on the ISO etc
