Not had much experience with fill flash, I do need to get to know my flashgun better, are they really that bad?
I don't think they're that bad - the first one is pretty good IMHO - the composition is exciting and you've metered well so you can make out the details. There is some blur around his head which could be motion. Could do without the other rider in the background.
No. 2 is the worst - out of focus subject, throw away.
No. 3 is OK from a focus point of view, but his face etc. is very much hidden by the shadow - hence fill flash. The composition could be better too - mostly background choice but the lighting is also a bit boring. Bobs suggestion of narrow DoF would help disguise the background a little.
Spent the day dicking around in the garden with the new Olympus OM-D and the 60mm macro.

i've been trying to find out what the problem is with this image, it seems to happen on re-size.. but didn't have a lot of time to trouble shoot as i was editing a wedding..
