Pretty nice moon Bob, have you tried stacking using Registax ?
Heres the first from my brand new D7000, shot at ISO6400 of Mike Harding at Shrewsbury Folk Festival :

stacking? how would that work with a full image of the moon?
such a lovely lens, with x2 kenko pro tele on (keeps AF) shot at 600mm x1.6 crop 1/50

g8ina, looks out of focus or blurred near the eyes, also to dark around the eyes?
Josh, not your best work, a pile of rubbish and a random shot :|
Bob, excellent as always :)
Yeah I know hes a touch soft, but in near darkness, with only a second to compose and shoot, Im not too unhappy :)
Stacking works with the moon Bob, just grab Registax and give it a go, its not the friendliest SW but with enough practise, results can be stonking.
meh, registax can't cope with raw (.arw) :(
makes one great image in theory :)
Aligns, denoises and sharpens.
The wavelet method is different to unsharp masks, using fast fourier transforms I guess, but has the advantage of you being able to selectively choose which wavelet frequences to enhance, a bit like choosing different pixel radiuses for an USM.

I don't know if adding more images helps with the sharpening aspect or just the denoising/contrast enhancement.
also increases contrast and for the moon thats pretty key.
Another 6400iso shot from Shrewsbury, Afro Celt Sound System, and yeah, I know it's not perfect but still learning how to drive this beastie at hi isos. Nikon D7000, 55-300mm, f5.6, 1/80th VR on.

That's class.
solid shot David! looks like the 7000 handles high ISO well :)
