Some great shots in this thread! Will post some of my own later :)
Bob, I was lucky enough to see Big Country live twice, back in 91 and 93, utterly, utterly amazing, fantastic shot mate.
I came on tonight because its a phenomenal moon out there, and i'm a bit drunk and i got the camera out, but washing lines, a shed and some aerials in the way, nothing good, and then theres the fact I don't really have a clue what I am doing, doesn't help, hoping someone took some shots tonight that can capture the essence of a clearish sky with opaque cloud over the moon, hope so.
Not feelin it, sorry Crazy! I think you've pretty much got the processing, now you need to work on more interesting subject matter :) I don't mean any offence, but anyone can take a photo of tree branches, show us something more interesting :D
Here's Lookin' At You, Kid:

Its funny you should say that htid - I was just about to do likewise, sorry Crazy :)
Superb frog btw, great bokeh there. What breed, any idea ? And where was it taken ?
Well I like 'em crazy, the sort of thing I enjoy taking shots of, something a bit different (yes anyone can take pics of tree branches but they tend not too!)
Oh I've seen too many - for a uni project I took loads because I was trying to get something resembling the bronchus and bronchioles of a lung! Worked quite well actually :D
Thanks Dave, it's a marsh frog from Rainham Marshes RSPB reserve (or so that's what I was told, I don't know much about frogs!)
Super frog indeed..great shot..
Here's a nature shot from the other day..thanks to my brother ;)

Nice! I'd take a little of the green off though, but it's a small thing.
A few taken with my phone (again! - I need to start taking my camera out again!)

Not at all bad for a phone cam Danny !
Just a quick prompt that my last home modded camera is for sale in the for sale section gang :) Its the Olympus C3040z.
my trainee hard at work this morning.

I agree with Dave, they are nice for phone photos, Danny! Is it the Peak District?
It was Ilkley Moor (see here)
And thanks :)
Hope you had yer hat on :)

here's one i took in Marple, Cheshire on Friday..

cheers, Roo
I like that a lot Roo - it doesn't look oversharpened, which some foliage shots can tend to, especially resized.
Went for a walk in the woods yesterday

Hehe! I see why :)
Here's some highlights from today at Airbase - Coventry. Finding the "nuclear consent" switch in the Nimrod, and thinking about what that meant to the guys flying this plane, was very humbling.

looks awsome. nice shots. love the last one
Some really promising work there josh, I'd clone the lamp out of the Big Ben shot though :)
Tfboy, more promising stuff, how about a try at night so car lights can be used ?
And Bob, great high key shot sir and thanks for the comments re wildlife. :)
Question for you - if I'm getting results like this with my existing Tamron 28-300mm with macro, would it be worth me getting a prime 105mm macro or similar ?
Your Tamron with macro is really a lens with close focusing, rather than much magnification. A real macro will allow for magnification, while the focal length determines how far away you can shoot. If your favourite subjects are already magnified enough with the current lens then a dedicated macro might increase the quality a bit, but you wouldn't be using the main selling point of the lenses. If you want super close ups of the same subjects though, then go for it!
its difficult to get shots of Dragon/Damselflies so being able to get that close was great!
Tamron is macro from 180mm onwards isn't it? so you'll be sacrificing distance by going 105, meaning you'll have to be super sneaky when it comes to insects. but the 105 is supposed to be razor sharp (15cm minimum focus distance as well).
shot from today with the Sigmalux @ 1.4 :D

Love the expression on the guy´s face! Great shot!
Another dragonfly today, this time its called the hairy dragonfly.... Its a hawker type, only comes out if the suns shining, bit like me really :)
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5189/...6c4fed6a_b.jpg
Thanks for the comment on macro Bob, I'll have to see about borrowing a lens to try out.

Penmon Lighthouse and Puffin Island by redddraggon, on Flickr
The lighthouse is a little blown on the white section, which is a shame, but it was the only shot with a decent wave breaking at the base that I had.
I really wish my Big Stopper had arrived, this location would have made an awesome long exposure.
great pic redddraggon. nice colour and contrast used their. marvalous
Right, just splashed out on a mint condition, second hand Tamron 90mm f2.8 macro for £140, quite chuffed, now to see how it performs.
Is it worth getting a canon f4 70-200mm or the F2.8 version?
the none IS version of the 70-200mm F4 is a bargain for an L lens but i may miss the F2.8 im use to on my walk around tamron 17-50mm f2.8
For a walkaround lens the 70-200 L f/2.8 is just far too heavy, it's like a cast iron drainpipe around your neck which is one of the main reasons I went for the f/4 IS instead.
I've been absolutely delighted with the f/4 IS, I can't fault it at all. It's my 'fire and forget' lens because every shot with it makes me giggle a bit even when I've been a dunce with settings it still captures keepers almost by itself.
Right, first two shots with the new 90mm Tamron, and I'm dead chuffed. Cracking sharpness ! And these are just random quick back garden shots....

Bleeding Hearts plant.
I'm going to enjoy this lens methinks :)
Very nice Dave!
Thanks matey, got the filter btw thanks.
OK, so I'm not going to become a macro bore just cuz I got a new lens :) I'll just post this one of a bee's head, then you can look here : http://www.flickr.com/photos/g8ina/s...7626520092271/ for the rest....
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5304/...d7f847c0_b.jpg
Can you all see the big daft grin on my face now ??
Stunning picture! How'd you get the thing to sit still? I've never been able to get a decent bee pic!
Took me three hours :) Just gotta be patient and sit still (and sitting still is fairly easy in the wheelchair !)
Ah - maybe it's the patience thing that's the problem then :)
Manual focus presumably? And normal flash - or do you have a ringflash?
Thinking of getting the 100mm Canon F2.8L IS as a replacement for the old 100mm I use (which isn't actually mine and is v old and noisy and slow AF - not that I use AF much with macro). Not sure if its worth it though as I have the thing on indefinite loan and not sure if the upgrade would be worth it...
I was going to say superglue :D
Here's a pair of Yaks and an Eagle at Old Warden last weekend

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5109/...1ba8a660_z.jpg
Nice!
Background on the bird one is a bit distracting but fantastic shots otherwise :)
come on Rugger, time to take your shutter speed down to 1/100 when shooting props, you've had enough practice by now :)
Does IS make a huge difference in terms of IQ and shutter speed?
Like them Dave!
I agree, might try cloning it out. But thanks :D
I don't know really. Shooting at these speeds gives me sharper shots and more keepers, even at the expense of a full prop disc. Also, I find shooting into the sun as I often am at airshows, particularly Old Warden, makes the prop disappear althogether. So a slow shutter speed gives me nothing at all!Quote:

I've also just realised that chrome doesn't colour manage properly! So in firefox and IE my photo looks better, in chrome it looks bland.
I don't have the patience or lens reach of g8ina (it's my portrait lens really :p)!

Another pet one from me, this time the our dog as oppose to the neighbours.

Canon 350D - f2.8 - 1/60 - ISO800 - Tamron 17-50mm
Canon 70-200 F4L. The day ones also have a Sigma 1.4x Teleconverter attached which I borrowed from a friend (I took it off at night time to gain a stop of light back again).

Just one macro from me today, a common blue damselfly playing peekaboo...
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3327/...dde6ec22_b.jpg
a bottle of brown sauce and i would make myself sick on that lot!
btw the macro shots with almost none existent DOF don't do anything for me. just looks blurred to hell and back.
It's hard to get DoF for the available light at such close focusing distances. Hence why focus stacking techniques exist, but I was just on a stroll with my new wife so wasn't about to setup a tripod and macro rail system ;)
Same aperture but a little further distance (and then crop) for my bee shot already gives more DoF:
http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/5721/bee1s.jpg
@gonzo
When I'm down at 1:1 super macro, the DOF is less than 1mm :)
Its a price ya gotsta pay to get that close :)
I think it might look that way cause I shot it through the shop window.
Here's one that shouldn't make you feel sick

Have to be brutally honest josh, neither of those shots say anything to the viewer. I realise you're just starting out with the street photography thing but your subject matter needs to be an awful lot more engaging.
No probs man, appreciate the honesty. i got a few more to post in a minute

poor guy.
i did this one in black and white:

try the guy in the bin in B&W cropping out the van and signs above the shop window, will (imho) make it look better.
the bike would look better in b&w without the modern padlock as that spoils it.
Gonzo, just for you sir, a few macros with a bit more DOF :)
