i agree, a very 'emotional' picture.... I only wish my GF would pose for me
just a couple of my most recent pics, they're certainly not of the best quality, this I know, but I try....

A couple from my hols in Dorset last year... Neither my skills nor my camera can compete with a lot of what's posted here but hey, I thought I'd post them anyway:
http://94.199.146.100/img/fossil.jpg
http://94.199.146.100/img/pulpit.jpg
nice macro Rugger :D
what fossil is that? and the 2nd Portland?
No idea - assume it's some sort of jelly fish and not actually that old seeing as it's limestone / sandstone. It was about the size of a football and I just liked the detail and the contrast against the black rock underneath... Down at Kimmeridge (seeing as you're a local). There were some mad looking rocks down there - some of them looked like balls of paper:
http://94.199.146.100/img/paper_scissors_stone.jpg
(it looks overly photoshopped to bring out the detail but if memory serves all I did was tweak the levels.. will see if I can find the original pic)
Yup - I'm told it's called pulpit rock... One from the other side (taken into the sun and 'shopped afterwards to bring some detail out in the rock):
http://94.199.146.100/img/pulpit2.jpg
i must confess that in all the years that i've lived in Dorset, i've never been to Kimmeridge...
Ruggerbugger - the wood shavings look really similar to sand dunes or something, from above. I like the contrast of the blue dust, too.
The rocks in Kimmeridge look crazy! Weird type of erosion. You're right Malfunction, they do make a really interesting photo :)
Bobster, did the guitarist actually have a pink guitar, or is it just the lighting? Great pic btw, love the mist and the concentration.
LOL no.. red lighting will do that ;)

Seeing Howard's swan pic, I thought I'd put forward one of my own....

Going to start posting here when I can, could always do with some CC :)

edit: I'm not sure how of this looks on other monitors - my CRT doesn't calibrate properly and this looks slightly oversaturated, but on the TFT the colours are slightly washed. It's not heavily PPed, just levels/resize.
Three panoramas from this week:

And on the summit.

1/2 way up is cool! :D
Nice pictures to be sure.
Thanks :) It was a blue pencil. I'm pretty impressed with the lens, but it's bloody hard to use as it needs excellent light, has a very narrow depth of field and is a bitch to hand hold.
Is it advisable to use a flash with this? I'm stuck with my hotshoe gun (no remote), but can't seem to get the timing right for the flash to be any use. Would a reflector be a better investment?
I took quite a few macro shots the other night of a few various items around the house and just used a lamp. You can even buy daylight lamps for £60ish and they work perfectly.
or white talbe cloth ;)
Didn't have a tripod, and I think I may have slightly overdone the tone mapping...

Your pics look ok but I am certainly no expert. I really don't know what I am doing with this HDR pics yet but very impressed with what can be achieved . I can see me using a tripod a lot from now on .
P.S. Had bought a new 'remote' for the Canon but have mislaid it -very annoying indeed. :stupid:
Some pictures from tuesday.

and this one just for fun, not a flattering picture i know, I just wanted to do something cool with the mirrored shades.
http://emobash.com/vault/ben/jp/32.jpg
I really like those photos ramedge... and the reflection one at the end its really good, obviously its very clear thats its photoshopped but you've done a really good job of it
Ramedge ... that's some great shots, especially the second one. That wallpaper is perfect for a very popular contemporary style that seems to be doing the round at the moment.
Thought the head spot in the first shot was a little too dense though, although the interaction and composition are great. I'd have liked to have seen the same spot effect as in number 2, with the wall highlight seperate for the spot on the subject.
I think number 3 is great, any chance of seeing the original? Or an edit with something less cliche than blue skies? That's a great picture, and could be sold on a dozen different themes through a stock site, using a dozen different photochops.
Care to share the setup for the shoot? What was the camera + lens specs?
Very nice.
The original
http://vault.emobash.com/ben/jp/5.jpg
The shot was done a bit randomly. I was at this guys house, I am producing his album (hes a singer / guitarist, you'd never of guessed by the guitar ;) )
he asked if i had my camera with me and i just so happened to have it with me so i just grabbed it from the car and we just took the pictures in his lounge.
I stuck my flash on my tripod (wirelessly triggered) , I moved it around quite a bit so I couldnt tell you exactly what I did with it. You can kinda see what position I had it in from the shots. I was experimenting quite a lot with the strength of the flash and bouncing off walls and facing it directly into the shot.
Camera: Nikon D80
Lens: Tamron 17-50mm all shot at f/2.8
And thats about it really :D thanks for the comments
heres one more.

Dude, those are some really original shots. Well done.
Great shots Ramage and some niffty pp too, good stuff.
Finally got my 430EX flash! Still learning / experimenting. Here's one taken using bounce, straight off a white wall. I tried to expose it to create some glow...
Tamron 17-50 2.8 again.

lovely attempt at snow Macro Rugger ;)
http://www.pbase.com/bob_hall/image/95251203.jpg
nearly got that lighting licked mmh ;) and this is a photo a day, not post all your shots guys :)
great expression Bob.
That was the best of the snow bunch really, handholding for macros is hard :D. I'm also finding the RAW noise on this camera hard to work with, any successful amount of noise reduction nerfs the detail as well.
lol, sorry... too many bands in one night...
lol
that gig was particularly hard with static (bad) lighting...
although i made the best out of a bad situation (or atleast in my opinion)..
the venues "official" photographer was there and i had a chat with him and he agreed the lighting was awful in the venue and he hates taking photos there too... although he does get all the big bands i the pit at the wulfrun and the civic hall (where the major label bands play)....
might have some photo passes for some gigs in those venues in the future too things all being well :)
just need to get my practise at 3 song limit (already got the no flash rule down ;) )
from a shoot today - i even got to fly it! :)

Taken With G9
Something looks strange about the lighting in this. Like some kind of off camera fill flash or lighting has been used in that capture, but i think that's probably due to some pp done on the sky behind the guy? it seems to contradict the foreground light a little to much. Then again, could just be one of those days ;)
Love the gritt in that last band shot mmh.
less neck cricky for you then ;)
http://www.pbase.com/bob_hall/image/95384728.jpg
thats a sweet DOF shot...
My boss would appreciate that shot... he's getting into his RC Helicopters... lol..
I can garentee the guy ur shooting can do alot more with it though!

Love that pic Bob, one question though, I know laws have changed, but are they old enough to marry?
thanks :) - heh i'm sure when they're older they'll h8 each other! ;)

still some work to do on the pillow, but this will do for now..
I'd have flung the pink dress on the bed as though it had been discarded, not hung it up.
But fantastic principle.
thats the chief bridesmaids dress..
Like the concept of the photo above, Bobster.

Bob Marley Tribute Band - Legend
http://www.rjwhetton.co.uk/kyps/Legend.jpg
Not to diminish your fine gig shots, I love them. Recognising venues with good lighting and using them to your advantage, is part of being a photographer, as well as understanding and having the ability to use the available light in any situation.
If Bob isn't adding any lighting effects including colours in pp (which I don't think he is) then shooting predominantly at one venue is inevitably going to start looking familiar, which they now are to my eye. So despite it being different bands, with very individual personalities, the portfolio (what I see here) starts to lack progression as it has no spectrum other than the house lighting. Just like a photo should have composition, so should a portfolio or indeed subject you might be personally studying. Not only does it keep it interesting for you but gives movement to your work and prevents an otherwise talented body of art from becoming meaningless.
who u rambling @ Rhyth?

Ruggerbugger ... nice crop, great subject. Looks a little blown out, or is that just the compression?
Ramedge ... love that shot. Really fantastic. Pushing it a little with the PP, but I think it just adds to the shot. Makes me think of Alice in Wonderland, or Land of the Giants....nice one
Bobster ... laughed myself silly with that one. Great crop.
MMH ... too small to really tell, but that's a great expression on the singers face. Shame about the floating scalps....
just come back from a mad weekend in wales shooting mil sim airsoft

auto metering has gone haywire with the white and darks and the backlight coming through the window..
spot or partial metering would have given better results when shooting in AV mode..
i used a canon 400d with its stock lens and have only been using it for a month with not much experience in photgraphy so all and all im a noob so expect these types of photos from me has im still learning hehe
Bobster, would love more information on that last shot! :) Where is it? Looks like Iraq or something...
my guess would be paintballing?
nah this is paintball...

Lol, having done that I wouldn't want to have been where you were. Interesting comment about the owl, it does look a little blown out. I have another with a bit more detail but more distraction in the background. Plus I liked the way the eyes came out in this one.
