    Thanks g8ina. Just went back and had a look at some of your work. The detail you got with the dragonfly (BandedDemoiselle) is impressive and liked the infra-red technique on the landscapes you've posted lately.

    Any ideas why dark areas are extra grainy?

    But why are underexposed areas grainier than correctly exposed areas?

    In the bright areas the light drowns out the noise (which shows as grain), in dark areas it doesn't. So you have more visible grain in darker areas.
