*face palm* A: Stop zooming in to 100%+ to view the image B: Don't underexpose and correct later in post..

try not to take shots where the singer looks like they're about to munch the microphone for dinner..

if you're having trouble in low light use the centre focus point and recompose..

this shot is from 2010, the venue that Air Traffic played is one of the worst in Bournemouth for light. had to crank everything to the max to get a decent shutter speed.

this shot could be blown up to 18x12 for the band / fan and they wouldn't make 1 remark about the noise in the image..

Thanks Robert, I noticed you do not use flash for your shots, I was experimenting with it and it made my shot look very flat and hard even when bounced with exposure compensation adjusted to minus levels.

Yup, standard gig photography - NO FLASH. there are a few people who use flash and they don't come to my house any more! worst thing in the world is to either blind the band or blind the public (you'll piss them off real quick).

There are a few exceptions where flash is standard - Metal gigs. The light is so poor and the band move so fast, there's little choice but to use flash.
These 2 shots I used flash. The venue had little in the way of front light, and very low ceilings.

Gig photography will certainly improve your low light shooting capabilities and give you an insight in High ISO shooting

    Re: Photo-a-day

Im gonna give gig photography another try soon, gonna collect my film shots of that night tomorrowbut im not gonna hold my breath as the shutter speed was really really low. I should of thought about pushing the film to 1600 asa.

Anyways here is one of my photos from today. Sun was creating harsh at shadows at 12pm. Photographed thru a pane of dirty glass.

Not posted on here in a while and was flicking through my flickr. I quite like this one, for some reason it came out quite filmic.

oooh nice PC-7s, great fun things, and whilst it's probably a fair bit of foreshortening, this is just great, the technical skill for what they are doing there!
