Try your local GA field that has a school on a calm sunny day. You will get lots of chance to practice on little Cessenas that are doing a third of the speed, without deafening yourself!

they werent that loud, I dont stand by the runway as they are 300mm or 420mm shots. One thing that concerns me with panning at airshows is every 10m they have these speaker boxes on poles for commentary, wouldnt panning make it harder to avoid getting those in your frame? Anyways I bought a tokina lens 28-70 2.8 lens for £150 today for use on digital and film decided to spend a couple of mins practising panning

Thanks Robert they were shot handheld as I forgot to bring my manfrotto mounting plate doh! And my Meike flash unit wasnt working, only the lamp worked.

That moment when
a) you only have your little camera on you (at least I had something)
and
b) you forget you've left it in the wrong mode (jpeg only..)
But still, not bad for a compact in jpeg mode.
