Camera recommendations..

Hi,

I'm looking to get a smaller camera that i can carry around with me (i love my s9500, but it's too big for everyday stuff) - ideally i want to get one of those ultra thin digital compacts. I guess my main things are:

-Big screen (mum has to use this too )
-Fairly easy to use (as above)
-Good indoor shots
-150-200 shots per battery charge
-Good night shots

I gather that these sort of cameras suffer from a bit of barrel distortion and vignetting, but i think i can cope with that considering this will just be a point and shoot affair. A few manual controls would be nice, such as maybe shutter speed (night + tripod sort of thing) control. My budget is around £150.

The Fuji's seem to be everyones favourites, especially for indoor and low light shooting

Yep the Fujifilm Finepix F31fd is a particularly good low light shooter and you'l have enough change for a memory card

Just so you have an option Canon's Powershot range have 150 pound'ish models that are highly regarded and Nikon's current CoolPix range are too.

I've found that the F11 is excellent for low light and its 2.5 generation supercedor, the F31fd, must be much better, unless all the reviews are wrong.
Amazon are doing it for £124, which is a very good price indeed.

Fuji have just told me that the F31fd will still be around until the autumn.
Personally I'd like to be able to afford the Ricoh GX100, but can't justify spending an extra £270, and I swore I'd never again get a camera without a viewfinder! But.....

I need a new compact at some stage and if I had the money I'd probably go for
a Canon PowerShot G7.

I was going for a G7 before i got my 9500, but i wanted the extras that the Fuji offered. It's still tempting to get it as a compact, but i want a bit more compact

Damn it. I'm really torn between getting the F40 and the F31.. The long exposure mode is a big bonus for the F31 - i don't know why Fuji didn't carry it over to the 4 series..

F31fd... great small camera, great value for money, go for it, i work in a camera shop part time, and have played around with quite a few camera's and i love this one, and think it is fantastic

Ok, quick thread revival - just wondering if anyone's had experience with Minox digital cameras?

They seem pretty good and this would be their offering: http://www.minox.com/index.php?id=18&L=1

It works out at around £200 inc p/p, it's slim, has a huge screen and looks like it probably has good picture quality (from the looks of Minox as a general company).
