hmm looking into more detail I could always get one of these bags. They are only £35 delivered and will allow me to carry other items as well.

Your right that a SLR may be a hassle but the type of picture you can take always outweighs the problems I find.

No worries on the insurance front all covered across the world : )

Re: Holiday - SLR or digi cam?

I have a similar problem. I have my really old 4MP kodak, a 3MP tiny practika thing, and my 400D and i cant decide what to take with me! I'm off to Gran Canaria, we're hiring a car to explore the island, but i'm hoping to spend a fair bit of time at the pool, and don't fancy leaving my SLR in the apartment, or having it down at the pool, but if i go exploring, i'll obv. want to take some decent photos!

    *dilemma*

My other option is to spend a few pennies and buy a new compact, that's a bit more up to date than my kodak..... I'd have to lie to the boy shape about price though.... he just doesn't understand my addiction to cameras....

    *decisions*

Lets not get ahead of ourselves, they certainly have a strong showing in the compact arena, but I much prefer Nikon DSLRs!

lol... I can't say for DSLRs but from what I've read they and Nikons are the best.

Re: Holiday - SLR or digi cam?

On a somewhat related note, I'm off on holiday soon (2 weeks trekking), roughly how much card space is enough? I'll most likely be taking my canon 350D and I prefer to shoot raw.

Re: Holiday - SLR or digi cam?

My guess is on the 350D it's about 150 RAW shots per Gb, so depends on how much you shoot per day i think you should have ~4Gb minimum or something to back up the pics

Re: Holiday - SLR or digi cam?

It seems to all come down to speed and warranty for the most part.

SDHC incidentally, has classifications - the higher the number the better. Class 6 is about the fastest right now (i think).
