And about bloody time, D90 is the one I am interested in. Although if it doesnt deliver I may have to carry on saving for the D300.

Re: Tadah! Here comes the Canon 50D ...

Just read a couple of blurbs about the D90.

It's a real shame the 50D doesn't do HD video recording too. It has HDMI output so it's part way there, LiveView also runs at 30fps too.

Re: Tadah! Here comes the Canon 50D ...

Hmm interesting But, like Saracen, I'm a bit concerned about the huge MP count on still a small crop size sensor. It'll be very interesting to see how noise / high ISO performance is. Maybe with the new CPU, it'll actually be very good. But the specs and "improvements" appear to me to be more of a numbers game than a true progression in terms of quality. At that size, I guess it's getting close to the density of compact cameras

    I suppose time will tell

But 30fps live view is nice and will make it far easier to use in certain conditions

Re: Tadah! Here comes the Canon 50D ...

The sensor is completely new, and not just higher density.

There is a good explination in the DPReview preview posted yesterday:
    http://www.dpreview.com/previews/canoneos50d/page3.asp

Going by the diagram here it looks like there is more light getting to each photo site as well as being higher density. If this is right, then noise shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Re: Tadah! Here comes the Canon 50D ...

the MKIII and 40D have always had 30fps for live view, Nikon on the other hand is a sideshow in comparison..

rumour is that its up to 24fps on the D90, but that could be people assuming its the same as the recording mode.

but the actual phase detect (i.e. normal) AF performance isn't improved, it's the same module as the 40D.
The Live View contrast detect AF speed had better have improved as it was virtually unusable on a 40D (not that LV is of interest to me anyway, but to some it no doubt is).

If this is true, it'll put the D300 and A700 under a heap of pressure - I don't think either are due updates, so lets hope for some price cuts there. It'll also kill sales of the 5D!

I can't believe it will touch the high ISO of the D700, though. I'm sure someone will post comparisons soon enough, just hope they don't make a hash of the methodology as they normally do.
