    Canon announce EOS 5D mkII

    http://www.usa.canon.com/templatedat...17_5dmkii.html

    It's here, and it's a beast!

Now, if only Carl Ziess made EF fit lenses.. hang on...

Interestingly enough, the RRP is $2699, which is £1500 but £2200 uk price...

Hmmm.. Anyone going on a short trip to America? Got plenty of space in your luggage?

Re: Canon announce EOS 5D mkII

    Why's that?

The only things I can think that are missing are expanded AF points, and a higher frame rate?

target market is not for high frame rate shooting. tbh I wonder whats going to happen now to the 1d line since the 5dII, 50d and others have the new processor, better screens and more gizmos...

Hmm looks pretty sweet. I only have a 450D at the moment, but I would like to get a full frame camera sooner or later.

I doubt anyone is going to pick apart your camera wondering when and where you bought it.

Cameras are too common to be checked over and over.

Not £3000 ones. Expensive cameras are one of the things I thought was common to be checked at customs - they're up there with diamonds in my Customs board game

They don't need to pick anything apart, just search your baggage for the manual/documents, which are inevitably different for the US than EU.

Holy Moly, that's a monster spec. 21mp really must be getting on for medium format quality- I'll have to bust out my Mamiya 645 for a last hurrah before it's completely and utterly obsolete.

The Sony A900 is 24.6Mp & in the UK at least slightly cheaper than the 5D Mk II ...

Re: Canon announce EOS 5D mkII

I'm not surprised the specs have been hamstrung a bit, if you compare with the 1Ds mk III, it's very, very close:

Same sensor, higher ISO, DIGIC IV vs Dual DIGIC III, 3.9fps vs 5fps, Better LCD screen with improved live-view, for effectively 1/2 the price (once retail drops the price a bit)

If they improved the frame rate and the AF point system, then nobody would bother buying the 1Ds any more as there would be virtually nothing to gain from it..

    As are serial number ranges.

And Customs can, if they wish, be right awkward about such things, levying the charges first and leaving it to you to prove the duty/VAT has already been paid .... or to get the confiscated camera back. And though it may not be likely, if it's smuggled in and found, it could get the camera confiscated.
