Recommendation: Still Camera with good Video indoors

    Hi guys,

Can anyone recommend a good still camera that can take good quality video indoors in possibly low light conditions?

Budget is low as possible but lets say around £200 (but flexable).

    Thanks.

The Panasonic DMC FX500 is pretty good. A 10 MP camera and can record HD video too. Low light is still not amazing, but much better than my old Sony (partly thanks to motion stablising tech).

Searching google I've read a lot of people saying the Fujifilm F30 has somewhat of a cult following for being good for low light conditions, but it's no longer sold... Anyone know what it's low light replacement is? I see the model numbers: F40, F47, F50, F60?

Hmmm...just typing "fujifilm F30" into Google brings up sales results, so it is seemingly still sold.

I'd be careful what they (the manufacturer) mean by being good in "low light" - and what you would find acceptable in "low light" - even £600-£1k camcorders can struggle in anything lower than a 7 Lux (luminance rating) situation. Do you have a specific use in mind for the stills and video? Shots and footage of a new born? Shots and footage of an indoors sports competition? Shots and footage of a school recital/play?

The size of the sensor, coupled with the fact it's not new cutting edge technology, in the F30 leads me to think it's low light performance would not be great - this is just one factor, however.

Thanks for your reply, typing any old model of anything into google still comes up with sales links, but they are all out of stock or just forward to one of the replacement models.

It's not manufacturer saying it's good for low light - my google searches bring up a few digital photography forum threads saying the F30 is the king for low light video - but a couple mention that the F40 or F50 isn't as good in comparison.

The requirement is a compact still camera with the best low light video for indoors.
