hi guys, im really considering making a huge purchase on one of these and the cheapest uk stock i can find is about £1550 and grey is around 1350...
thats a massive difference of course, but even then would it be a good purchase considering its been out for nearly 2 years, i would hate to purchase it and a mk2 gets released a few months later!
going for the 15-85 lens bundle
also anyone with a 7d - opinions ? :)
so.. opinions on grey ? a no go ?
There is a rumour that a 5D MkIII is due soon so it maybe worth holding off a while and seeing if the current 5D comes down in price.
For a body I'd get UK. Lenses are OK on grey as warranty is more flexible.
If u already have a crop body then the 7d wont offer much if any improvement depending on your curren crop body. the only thing you will notice on the 7d is AF and possibly video(if your current camera diddnt have it)
Going from a crop to a FF body u will see lots of improvement in terms of IQ and Noise reduction.
Not really true any more, the quality between the sensors is really not as great as it used to be. In the same way a lot of the micro cameras we're seeing have really not bad quality compared to the APC-S!Quote:

Its not got very good image quality, its big, and its bloody expensive, the build quality isn't as good as others I don't think.......
I think that for something so expensive, that you can get two k-5s for the same price almost. and a k-5 is a damned better camera, unless your wanting to do video, as the k-5 is a bit limited by comparison.

The K5 and the 16-50MM/F2.8 lens can be had for between £1300 to £1350. For that price you are getting a weather sealed combination,which should be also fairly decent in low light.
The OP should check the pictures TheAnimus took in his recent jaunt to Africa.
Well the IQ on a 5dmk2 blows away the 7d mate so IMO there is a big difference between FF and crop at least on canons range of camera's anyway.Quote:

Josh I'm not disputing that the 5Dmk2 is a better camera, just that we're seeing an interesting shift in to smaller but high quality cameras! I mean the 645D has better quality, but I wouldn't think anyone suggests getting a media format over a crop-body for non studio work!
I'd also advise the OP to come along to one of the many London photography clubs and have a play with someone who's got the kit your looking at, its a lot of money, and in my personal opinion the 7d is a bit of a lemon.
As for cost, you're talking about a 13% saving by going to the grey market.
Given that Canons CS is actually pretty good, do you want any potential hassle if things go wrong for a 13% saving?
I always find that looking at the percentage of the cost of an item works better, over the actual amount. 13% all of a sudden seems small if you need to send it away under warranty and you can do so directly to Canon UK.
As far as I'm aware (a friend of mine was looking into buying a used 50D and wanted to know whether or not to consider buying a grey model, so he rang Canon UK to confirm), once the first year's warranty has expired, grey and UK models are treated equally with regards to servicing and repairs?
:) at least, that's what the nice man in an official Canon repair centre in Scotland told me... Obviously things might be different in the first year, I don't know about that... but once the 1 year is up then it sounded like it really didn't matter.Quote:

Re read my post again mate. i said IQ differences. set my 400d and a 7din the exact same shutter and aparure settings, ISO of say 800 and attach an identical lens and you will see that the IQ is near enough the same on both camera's
Do the same with a 7d and a 5dmk2 and i will see the difference :)
