My macro focus stabiliser, a DIY project for 2 (TWO) quid !

As I'm getting on a bit, my hands aren't as steady as some of the yunguns. This makes my macros a tad tricky, and I've been getting loads of duff shots due to focus shift or camera shake.

I had a thought.

I went to Poundland and bought a "perfectshots" "Camera Accessories Kit" which comprises a mini tripod, and a small air blower/duster. The blower went into the bin. I also bought an "Activate" Indoor Telescopic Aerial - VHF/UHF".

2 quid spent so far.

Dismantle both items, and keep one of the telescopic rods from the aerial kit and the head off the mini tripod, having removed all three legs and retaining the screws.

Now replace one leg with the telescopic aerial rod.

Screw the tripod head into the camera and try a macro shot at very close focus. You need to adjust the length of the rod to suit. The I locked it into place by crunching the second part of the telescope just behind the end of the first part.

Now I can rest the tip of the rod against a tree (for example) and run my AF and the focus will not shift as I sway in and out from the tree.

2 quid spent in total :)
