    Getting a film SLR cleaned

    Evening all

Thanks to my wife responding to a Freegle advert almost instantly on her phone we now have a shoe box full of OM mount lenses and an OM-1

My wife wants to use it but I think it needs a bit of cleaning first. You can see some dust/fibres through the viewfinder. Any suggestions on companies that will clean it?

There is some film in there right now, so I'm going to finish it, get it developed and see if there are any makings on the shots, or if it's just in the viewfinder.

Could probably do with a clean and service regardless though.

I clean the sensor on my D-SLR myself but I had this lot recommended to me for a different job similar to what you're asking about. Not used them yet though.

Re: Getting a film SLR cleaned

You don't really need to send it to a professional to be cleaned. The dust you can see in the viewfinder is likely to be on the focusing screen and won't show up on any photos anyway.
Best way to get rid of it is to go to a local camera shop and buy a hurricane blower. This is a big squezzy rubber bulb that blows out air through a nozzle. Blow out the mirror box carefully with it and you should see a great improvement. If it's really dusty you may need to take out the focussing screen and clean that too. That needs a lot more care as it's quite easy to scratch and you'll need some fine tweezers to do it with if you haven't got the correct Olympus tool. There's probably a page somewhere on teh web explaining it all if you Google it.
