Pricey is the right word! But I think that might just be because they are pricing this in a manner to remind people its really close to the performance of the $2k cameras with larger sensors. As such I doubt that price point will last long, once there is a little more competition in this space.
It will be interesting too see the effect of the OLPF, in the K-5IIs it is generally considered to be of little real significance, but what really is the difference between this and the D5200?
One of the concerns I have with the 5200 is the overall noise and sharpness, if you look at the noise samples here:

looking at the queen it becomes quite noisy when compared with the out of date and cheap K-30, at just 400 ISO. I don't think removing the OLPF will 'fix' that. However I would have thought such effects can be greatly improved by firmware.
I think that the D7100 is going to be one of those cameras few can wait to have a bit of hands on with, I only hope the price is a lot more reasonable by the time it arrives. Sadly I fear they feel that they are unrivaled in this space at the moment.

I am actually interested to see what Pentax comes up with in the next year. I realised after going to some more airshows a 24MP APSC sensor might be useful, as it helps with cropping, as even a 400MM is not enough with some of the flight paths!!
I cannot wait for this camera! Is there any dates for the UK release?
The suppliers are saying before the end of this month. However, I would add caution when buying something like this, it costs soo much more than its sibling, wait until its assured to be worth it!

Its better to wait a while until all the initial price gouging has subsided and any teething problems have been solved.
