Around half of that figure was under a retention of title agreement - so it was reclaimed pretty much straight away. Yes, the other half is rather painful, but Canon/Nikon/Sony know that hands on experience is key to increasing their market share, so I'd be surprised if they don't continue supporting the chain. That said, Jessops may have to pay a higher price for each unit/lower supply quantity etc. There are a fair few ways the manufacturer can gain protection.

The other thing is the loss comprises two parts, the actual economic loss of the materials that went into the particular device supplied (Bill of Materials cost), and the opportunity cost loss of the profit in each device. Not ideal, but the actual exposure (versus damage to expected profits) is lower than those figures probably make out.

    Re: Jessops resurrected

Well after stopping by their store yesterday I don't think they are in with a chance.

Most things they were selling were at least £100 more expensive than amazon. Plenty of the cameras had no batteries, they had limited selection of lenses. Compared to a proper camera shop they have no chance.

Anyone buying an expensive camera, probably owns a smartphone, and will probably google the price, laugh at the shop price and walk out.

Thing is - and this goes for all high street retail - if it was just a little bit more expensive I'd happily pay for the convenience of walking out of the shop with it.

Unfortunately it's all too often like you say a massive difference that you can't ignore.

The one in Manchester has re-opened although tbh has anything changed?

With the tiny exception that I couldn't find ANY panasonic lenses for my micro 4/3 camera.

    Re: Jessops resurrected

just as mentioned i would look in Jessops..get a feel for the product..go home and order from Amazon for a cheaper price and still have it delivered foc next day....but ....the last time i went to Jessops before it closed up...they had a 9 month interest free deal on so they got my business on a 1000 pound camera...so if they can offer online prices and maybe the odd interest free deal i would be willing to shop there again....
