First Self Portrait using two speedlites
Re: First Self Portrait using two speedlites
The lighting looks fine to me , though Im no expert , and I have no idea what sort of look / effect your looking for .
Reminds me of the sort of portrait stuff Bob does ..
I take it your more interested in technical side of how it looks than the artistic ?
And with that I cant really add much Im afraid , though perhaps someone else can enlighten us ?

Which one do you like best?
Any improvements in terms of lighting?
looking at it, i'm finding it difficult to see why you needed 2 lights..

no , just in general .. maybe because of the scale and because you do a lot of stuff that has a catalogue sort of vibe to it ( apart from your " portal " ones ) :)

I should post the one light shots i done because my right side was dark and too contrasty and i needed fill light. i built that setup one by one ie first tried it with one key light and positioned and adjusted it accordingly then added a fill light and adjusted and positioned accordingly too.
This is teh technique that quite a few famous togs do ie see if one key light is sufficient and then begin to build your lighting setup in blocks if need be.
Check out Joe McNally as a prime example of his approach. he starts off with one and adds more if needed

Or a reflector.
It looks too flat/front on to me - I think you shouldn't even notice a fill light - just notice when you don't have it! One light + reflector is my preferred lighting scheme as you get the nice directional light but with some fill and softening effect.

Btw if your in London, a nice chap called Huy does some lessons for the LPMG that are very good value. It is a good way of getting practice, sometimes they will have a few models aswell, but mostly its just a friendly group and a few pints after the days over.

whos going to hold the reflector for me while i pose for the camera waiting for the shutter time control to take the shot automatically for me :)
dont forget i did this all on my own. the shot, the setup and i was the actual subject :)
i will post a pic of the setup soon so you can see how it was all positioned :)

Re: First Self Portrait using two speedlites
