    Question for you 'Videography' types

    Rolling Shutters. Horrible aren't they.

I've got a GoPro 3 Silver, and it appears that changing the FPS mode doesn't really change the shutter speed. I'm looking to borrow a Black to see if upping it to 120fps changes the shutter speed to be faster, plus I've heard the black is better built internally.

At the moment I'm flying some more interesting planes, hopefully I'll find an FAA CFI to get my tail dragger endorsement and I can fly a tiger moth. But the GoPro just doesn't really 'do it'. The props become all watery and shimmery like.

Anyone got any advice? Should I try a different action camera?

Not accessible from my current location (and no datasignal either!)

Was the gist of it to use an ND filter? Or did it involve specific syncing to an RPM (not possible for what I've got in mind)

An action camera that has either controllable aperture or form of shutter sync. Or something that doesn't use a rolling shutter.

I'll have a play with a ghetto ND filter, I've got some old Cokin P series that is scratched to hell, I'll pop down to the glaciers on my street and see if he'll cut it for me a bit, then try some duck tape to make it stay on

Re: Question for you 'Videography' types

I had a quick play and worked rather well, so I've now gone and splurged, just finished putting it all into a case.

Two GoPro Hero 3s one Silver, one Black. An ND2 and ND4 filter, plus polarizer. Hopefully have some fun tomorrow. Finding places to put them on a vintage cub is hard, but I've prepared as much as I think I can.

Had a play with it today, and the bloody thing overheated. A £300 peice of @$"#.....

Anyway, hopefully turn off the wifi mode will make it actually last longer.

    Perhaps this:

Not as flexible and you can't use the waterproof housing, but it is off the shelf and quick.

Re: Question for you 'Videography' types

I've actually bought one of these:
    http://www.polarprofilters.com/shop/...-filter-glass/

Because my quick test with some ND filters found it did reduce the prop-strobing. It is a shame I can't control the sync but I guess such is. I've also got a polarizer to see if that is enough alone.

I will say I'm a little bit disappointed with how limiting the GoPro is. I mean £300 for a camera, I expect it to be more than just some solid thing with no moving parts. I don't mind the mandatory firmware update on first use, but to have all the latest firmware, and the thing overheat on its first use, in what I would charitably describe as tepid weather conditions just isn't impressing me so far.

However, I'll give it another chance, but sadly it will be next month before I get time I think.
