    K-3 Announced.

    http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-came...-35828459.html

    http://www.dpreview.com/previews/pentax-k-3/

Basically, the same sensor as the D7100, but it has some extra low light tweaking, can do one more ISO, has a much faster shutter (8.7fps) but a piss poor battery life if cNet is to be believed. The really interesting thing is the shutter mechanism they are raiting to 200k actuations.

The really cunning thing is the use of the shift mechanism to simulate OLPF.

Has dual SD, which after my drama last year is making me think that is a useful feature afterall.

Hmm I've heard from someone who's had some hands on that the enable/disable AA filter (well OLPF) actually works quite well..... Very interesting!

yeah, they announced an 'event' for Weds last week. They are also apparently doing some trade in promotions. Hopefully I'll have chance to swing by tomorrow before a meeting.

There is a bloody good write up on how the AA system works here:

    http://www.imaging-resource.com/PROD...pentax-k3A.HTM

Really fascinatingly clever stuff. The advantage it has is not only been turned on or off at whim, theoretically it has less light lost too.

Because it's a Ricoh. (Pentax is a Ricoh subsidary).

Because they decided to make me super pissed off, they've taken the focus mode physical switch. :S

Will have to have a play to see if I miss that, that much.

    Re: K-3 Announced.

    Had a good little play.

The focus is faster, the interface, meh, I guess it will take some getting used to. There are more auto-focus options, which if you care for that is nice (I'm center lock... always center lock).

It is definitely a good camera. But for myself I don't think it is a better enough camera for an upgrade. Sure having no AA filter would help with plenty of photos of the kind I like to take, but not enough for the upgrade.

I will say it looked rather decent at very high ISO however.

    Re: K-3 Announced.

The higher MP sensor and better AF would make this a better choice over the K5 for aircraft photography, albeit at a much higher price!!
