Did I miss this somehow? Tried to login using my Google details and it's prompting me to allow access to Yahoo to view some of my details (which for now I've declined so I can't get into flickr right now). Reading around it seems like they're forcing you to setup a Yahoo id?
Whats the deal?!

Yes, but you could login with google/facebook details. Looks like they're now making Yahoo! login mandatory.
since Google+ gave me 14GB of free photo storage, Flickr has been on the back burner..

Yep, then it requires you click to allow Yahoo access to your Google profile (might have always done that?) and then the first thing you see is a big prompt saying that soon you'll need a Yahoo login so why not set one up now? :)
Mine just logs in without any popups? Maybe because I've already agreed access for Flickr on my Google account?!

But with the kidding aside, Yahoo is probably trying to gets its own corner back from Facebook and Google. Like try doing anything on YouTube with out a Google plus account.
Last year I need to share an album of pictures for family around the world which I from Fickr hard to use and restrictive so went to Photo Bucket, The grandaddy of picture hosting.
I only started using Flickr again recently after the redesign and the giving you 1TB of space for free but I think I'll just stick to my Google space if things are gonna be changing!
Soo..i read that the 30th June is the day they'll be requiring you to have a yahoo login.
So does anyone have suggestions for a good alternative?
I use Google drive for all my pics as I got a 100gb for £1.99 per month. I use the Google + backup feature and all my pics are on there. Never used it yet for sharing pics.
Might have to try it to see how it is.

It comes in twp versions - personally I prefer Galery2 as it is more versatile, particularly with regard to permissions, but Gallery3 is supposed to be faster.
You will need a the Gallery code, PHP, a web server (apache) and a database (such as mysql)

Gallery2 will run on Windows or Linux - the easiest way to get going is probably to use LAMP or WAMP - which gives you Wordpress as well, but you don't to use that.
