It's interesting because it's the same sensor which other people store 16bit info from.
Now given that Pentax on paper are saying they've got more ISO range, I wonder if they are doing processing to reduce the image down a bit.
However, the main thing is, it's half the price of the competition. But also that bitage isn't really everything, considering most people are fine in an 8bit per RGB channel space.
