Brilliant, thank you - blocked at work but I'll have a peek when I get home tonight. I actually went to buy it from Currys online on Saturday, but it's magically disappeared from the site, and the next cheapest is £300. got a bit of time, hopefully I can snatch a deal.

    Edit!!

There seems to be a TG870 which is a cheaper version.

    Re: Compact Travel Camera

I think that the unavailability of the TG4 is possibly due to it being over spec'ed for its price.
The 870 is only 3.5 aperture, no RAW - pluses, is slightly longer zoom, articulating screen, which IMO is a less toughable liability.
Fulifilm are due to launch the XP120 nowish - but didn't figure for me.
I really wanted a TG5 - when I asked O about if an update was imminent/line discontinued? , as update is overdue, I got offered a direct discount - but would have to have been red.

The TG870 lens is substantially wider though,ie, it starts at 21MM instead of 25MM.

    Re: Compact Travel Camera

    Hey guys

One of my mates suggested that I rent a gopro from Fat Lama for when I go on holiday to Hainan, China in a couple of weeks and I do paragliding etc etc (I don’t do enough exciting stuff to justify buying one ). The problem is I don’t really know which of them on there is the best to get. I’m not by any means good at video editing or anything like that, it’ll just be for me and my mates to watch and maybe youtube. Do any of them on there look suitable? (Apologies if this question gets asked a lot!)

    Cheers!’

    Re: Compact Travel Camera

Even though I read in reviews on the TG4 that I should not use the zoom in low light/moving situations, I've wasted some battery ignoring what I know to be true.
Taking pictures of a cayman from a motorised canoe was stupid on zoom nvm!
At least machu Pichu was keeping still today, all snaps on widest.
I've found that video and especially panorama (which is the least intelligent I've used) absolutely slaughter the battery.
Very good choice of camera, even though I haven't needed waterproof yet- I'm keeping it in a neoprene arm strap, brilliant for quick access - literally rip it out by the strap. Oh well, back to my Cusquena Dorada - over looking a roaring Andean mountainside river.
    Chao

They were being very evasive when I emailed their CS a few weeks ago to see if there was a newer version being announced soon. And it explains the supply/price issues of the TG4.

June is cutting it fine for me to see some final reviews. Might use this as an excuse to grab a clearance TG4 from somewhere, the 5 does seem nice, though.

Looking at the sensor it might be the same one shared with newer high end smartphones so should be better in lower light.

    Re: Compact Travel Camera

I thought that I was going to be annoyed about not getting the latest - when I contacted Olympus Co in March to explicitly ask whether a TG5 was due they answered by offering me a 10% discount on the TG-4.
However, apart the possible improved toughness, I'm not envious of any of the new features.
    Phew!
