Is a make of SD cards more reliable than others?
I have got to buy a new SD card and was wondering if any make was more reliable than
others?
I recently bought a couple of PNY cards from ebay, according to cid number they are genuine.
The first card failed the second time the camera was turned on!
The second card didn't fail for a few weeks.
PNY were good enough to replace the cards.
However one of the replacements had a "no card in camera, reinsert card" error
within a week or so, and has just errored while videoing. Surprisingly the video
is intact and OK up to that point.
But I am not getting PNY cards again.
Re: Is a make of SD cards more reliable than others?
It's the underlying flash chips that are probably the main cause of concern.
I tend to use Lexar, Sandisk and Samsung but since the first two don't manufacture their own memory it's not guarenteed that every model will be great.
Re: Is a make of SD cards more reliable than others?
Sandisk seem the most common and I've not heard of one failing from anyone that uses them.
Got several heavy users in the friends circle - photographers, drone pilots, the sort who carry little wallets with flip-leaves full of hi-cap SD cards.

Agreed. BUT .... be aware of fakes. It was certainly a thing a few years ago. Now? Not sure, bt it'd surprise me if it wasn't still true.My preference is to buy from major sources - it might be a bit more expensive but often, nowhere near the value or PITA value of losing data.

It's a minefield :(
After a lot of googling my last personal purchase for my new camera was this Samsung: amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09D3P5LYN/
It seemed to get good reviews, and figured it was still cheap enough that I wouldn't be too gutted if it died. It hasn't yet, but sample of one so far.
At work we have a product that uses micro SD cards (it boots from it, same way as a Raspberry Pi) and have had enough trouble that we now buy cards from Swissbit. They are a manufacturer of industrial grade SD cards, so we are paying through the nose twice. Once for low-ish volume, and again because in our high integrity part the MLC or QLC flash chips are driven in pseudo SLC mode for extra data integrity. But we haven't lost one yet, and in our usage I haven't seen the wear indicator drop below 100% of spare left. But they are a magnitude more expensive than that Samsung, so for home use I'll just buy a few of those and shrug if one dies :D

I use transcend 700S cards
