Hi all, thinking about getting this lense for my Canon EOS 20D - it's £77.98 delivered at the moment from devoncamera.co.uk - any good alternatives at a similar price or maybe you know somewhere cheaper?
Danke!!

i got mine for next to £50 brand new. I'd say £77.98 is a little bit on the expensive side.
best £50 I've spent though, nick-named the nifty-fifty it is a pretty awesome lens, mine is sharp but there are some utter dogs out there. I'd say maybe look on ebay?
if you're looking for a good 50mm type range for the 20D have a look at the sigma 30mm...I think someone around here has one too

Do you mean the 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM? This is much more money!!
Also - I've been looking on ebay and loads of places for the EF 50 II but cannot find it any cheaper apart from importing at £65.00 with a long delivery time & possible import tax.

onestop have them for £65.99, they have quick delivery (about 5 days for me) and no tax (they pay it for you if it happens) probably worth a shot.
I knew about onestop them but the problem there is that although they may refund the VAT of £11.55, you have to post the original reciept to Honk Kong and obviously you will need to register this through the post and would cost nearly £5.00. So, total cost could come to £71.00. And - if there is a fault - this is the big problem and could cost lots more money. Not really sure its worth the risk to import.

Did you get any queries from the inland revenue?
It appears the Mk.1 is much better than the Mk.2 so I might just try for that on ebay.
was gong to say pick up a mk1 from ebay

I got one now from eBay - just waiting for it to come :-)
They go for upwards of £90 on ebay. And all you get is a metal mount and a distance scale. Hardly worth it.Originally Posted by Bobster
