    Canon EOS lenses

I'm going on holiday in a couple of months to Islay on the west coast (big extended family holiday - really looking forward to it). I've decided i would like to get a couple more lenses for my 350D. See my sig for my current lenses.

These are the ones i've been looking at:

CANON EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM (£470 at Jessops) (£370 best i've found)
    CANON EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM (£500 at Jessops) (£380 best i've found)

I also like the sound of the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM as i'm a bit of a wide angle fan, but i think that will have to wait for a bit, along with a fish eye lens as well

Any thoughts on those two? They will basically replace the two i have and give me ~100mm further zoom along with Image stabilisation.

well both of those will be better than the ones you have, from what I've heard the 70-300 is pretty crispy too so you can't do badly there. as for wideangle, consider the offerings from sigma as well, cheaper than canon and IQ seems pretty identical. bargain!

tricky really, if you want a do-it-all lens there are a couple of good ones worth a look by sigma and tamron. canon didn't do what nikon did and bring out their own (there's such a high demand for the nikon lens its almost imposible to get hold of one!), its the 18-200mm range. it covers lots of your bases and for travel seems ideal, meaning all you need after that is a wide angle and you're set. ok so 200mm is your limit on that but its still a very usable range, no? worth a moments thought at least, plus sigma and tamrons are excellent quality yet much cheaper than the canon equivelents (not that there are any at this range just yet)

i figured i wouldn't go far wrong with the canon ones, just wanted someones input.

I have looked at the Sigmas 18-200 as a general purpose everyday lens. I've heard it isn't the greatest when right our at 200, but then it is good value at ~£260.

Need to think about this some more

My Interest free credit on my 350D kit is due soon, so one i've paid that i was going to take out another finance deal on some lenses, but at £100+ saving when buying online i think i'll give Jessops a miss on this one.

Are there any other good suppliers that would do finance and more realistic pricing? (Jessops don't price match when taking out finance)

    thanks Shiato

    warehouse express.
as a rule I try to avoid jessops cause they're cr*p mostly...often find people selling stuff know very little about what they're actually selling for a start.

My local one is okay, but that's because they kept the staff from the specialist camera shop that was there before..

re: lenses, the 75-300 isn't bad, but it's a bit unweildy and a touch soft in places.

I'm thinking about the 17-85 IS lens for myself actually.. if I don't go mad and buy some more "L" glass that is..

If you are not 'that' bothered about the extra 100mm or IS have you considered the 70-200 F/4 L. I cannot stress the quality good glass gives you on a shot that has been correctly taken. I had my 18-55 out at the weekend and although they are both aimed at different things, this kit lens they supply you with has nothing on something of L quality, end of.

I still personally have reserved judgements about the 70-300, is it not the same glass as in the 70-300 non IS that costs around £150? If so your paying a lot for just an extra function.

    Just my thoughts...

Definately consider Sigma though, don't have anything myself but a lot of people love them when then budget is a little smaller than Canon would want you to have it

I'd second looking at sigma, good quality stuff indeed.
