    Camera to Portable HDD

    Hi!

I'm a huge fan of my D50, I love the fact that I can be so trigger happy with an SLR. The thing is, I regularly fill my 1gb card and I was wondering if there is a way to connect a portable HDD or a Memory stick to it without a laptop or other computer getting involved and copy all the photos off. Thanks!

Yes, there are battery powered flash/portable USB jobbys available. I'll try and find a link.

Only problem is, they're silly slow.

You won't be able to attach a hard drive to your D50, but you can get battery powered hard drives that will copy your files off the CF card.

I have a Sony HDPS-M1, not the greatest device, but works well for what it is and was pretty cheap when i got it.

the more expensive ones have a colour preview screen, others just have a menu system

    ipod plus camera connector ftw

30GB of storage for anything you choose to transfer - RAWS, movie(avi), jpeg

you can only preview jpegs on the ipod but it does transfer and saves the others - doesnt seem to sluggish either

My iRiver H320 has a USB host mode. No need for an adapter, just the USB cable

It is USB 1.1 though, no high speed shenanigans in host mode.

Was looking at doing this - although read some reviews saying it was very slow to transfer.
How do you find its transfer speed, i.e. any idea how long a 1gb card would take to transfer?

    thanks

If it's anything like the iRiver it's going to take a while to transfer 1Gb, probably the best suggestion is the one above to buy more cards, it's cheaper unless you happen to want an MP3 player as well.
