as far as im aware the tz1 does not include any sort of lens adapter to be able to fit filters where as the fz7 does include an adapter to use them (uses 52mm filters btw)Quote:

OK that's very useful because . I spoke with my dad in Germany ( he's there to do vacuum fusion research not for the WC) and he recommended the fz7 as well purely because of the extra features like the tiff support. so I think that's probably going to be the one for me. thanks for all the help people.EDIT.. update i now reckon i might get the fz30! its much bigger but seems to be the only one that has few down sides.. but this is such a hard choice
In the end I went for the fz7 for £250. now should I get a 2gb or a 1gb memory card?. I'm leaning towards 2 but i don't know weather its a waste of my money :(
Depends on how much you shot per session and whether the battery can keep up with that :P. For a typical day out I shoot around 300-500 shots, and it's ~4Gb.
As a proud owner of Canon S2 IS digicam (and before that I had the S1 IS...) I say only good things about the Canon S2 IS and I guess that the S3 is even better.
When I bought my camera it was also really hard for me to decide which camera to buy, the Panasonic FZ5 (in its time) or the Canon S2 IS?
As far as I know/heard, both camera are just GREAT, and they both give great colors.
I perosnally like the colors and sharpness of the Canon more, but don't forget that the Panasonic has a LEICA lens.
The only things I've noticed that got improved in the Canon S3, are the LCD screen which is now 2" instead of 1.8" and 6MP instead of 5MP.
I would say that the camera are ALMOST IDENTICAL...but since the Panasonic requires a "special" Panasonic Battery, while the Canon S3 IS can be operated with 4 "regular" AA batteries, I would FINALLY go with the Canon S3 IS!!!
So...I say, S3 IS!!!
Anyway, whatever you decide, GOOD LUCK with your purchase and let us know what did you buy eventually...:mrgreen:
do a google search though.. pannie is £50 cheaper thats what swung it for me in the end the difference was too marginal and debatable to be worth the extra. Hans i don't think i'm at your level yet, I think 1gb will be enough to start with and if its really limiting me i can always upgrade later.
How many FZ7 shots does a 1gb card hold?

I'm gonna be going on holiday after I get mine so might be tempted to pick up 2 cheaper 1gb sticks.
I got mine on thursday evening and its very nice indeed (despite the fact it was set to chinese by default) but i haven't had much chance to test it out yet so hopefully i will post some pictures soon

no, I went to jessops but i wasn't very convinced with what they hadtbh. There were some nice crumpler ones in boswells but they didn't fit. I've found a shop which sells larger ones but i havm;t gone out thier yet. Camera cases are clearly high profit margin they seem to be about £20ish
Yeah. I found the proper Panasonic FZ5/FZ7 case on Purely Gadgets for £18, which I might get, as it will be a perfect fit.
Rechargable battery packs would be a bigger positive feature for me, my F11 has a rechargable battery that lasts long enough to take at least 400 picutres.
bleeding heck the price had alreaqdy gone down by £5 since i got mine from rankhour ( t was 245 at purley then). Theyve listed the crumpler crisp-E 3300 as a good accesory bag i wonder wether that is good advice or not. I have a crumpler messenger bag and i've found it to be excellent quality so i'd like to stick with them if possible. also the panasonic case is fugly and i'm petty
I just bought a lowepro edit 110 case for it which holds it nicley even with the cap + adaptor and straps onto the side of my crumpler if neccessary. Hopefully i'll post some pics soon EDIT:hmm i think maybe this wasn;t the best case actually i'm going to take it back beacuse its dimensions are slightly out.
