How safe are todays camera's to take out and about while the weathers a bit wet?

Are they okay to get the odd drop or 2 of water onto or should I still keep my camera safe and sound hiding away from the scary droplets from the sky?

I'm just asking as I was going to go out at the weekend last week but due to it "spitting" and having that fine drizzly rain I decided to not risk it and rolled back into bed at 8.30am.

Obvously different cameras have different levels of environmental protection, If you are paranoid you can always buy one that is advertised as splash proof, or buy a diving enclosure.

Having said that, I have used my Nikon D70 in quite heavy rain, and on another ocasion in a minor sand storm, and it appears to be fine.

Obvously I have no idea how your camera would cope.

I take my 30D to the beach every summer, appears to be fine, well so far. If you're the worrying type buy something that is weather-sealed like Nikon D200, Canon 1D series or Pentax 10D (iirc)
