Canon Camera Video format...

Hi.. i konw this is a long shot.. but:

Does anyone know what video format Canon cameras save in video mode? specifically a Ixus 50?

I can get the videos off the camera, and they sometimes play in fine in WMP - but id like to use them in video editing like adobe premier and windows movie maker.. premier doesnt recognise the format, and movie maker crashes when it tries to import them. G spot also crashes when trying to analyse them..
Maybe theres a codec better suited to rendering them? but i dont have the original Canon software to check, and ideally would like to avoid installing the canon stuff.

Anyone got any ideas?

My Canon just records as AVI and they load find into Windows Movie Maker... so don't know why it wouldn't work on your computer?

Did you install the software for the camera?

No. I've got a Canon IXUS i7 Zoom. Using Windows XP Home (SP2) on one PC (WMP 9.0, WMM 5.1 without the Canon software) and Windows XP Pro on another computer (with the Canon software) and it plays fine on both. I don't use the cable to transfer the files, I just use a memory card reader or a Sandisk SD plus USB card...

Odd..

ive definately traced it back to a dodgy codec somewhere.
they use mjpeg compression. tried 3 different codec packs all with varying results..

might try the canon software
